Passenger restraint system malfunction?
Hi I drive a 2006 330i sport. I am getting a message on my i drive saying "passenger restraint system malfunction" every time i start the car and its getting really annoying clearing it out everyday i start my car to access my i drive functions. Now my question is iv been to a few bmw shops and the dealer and they all say that the sensor underneath the seat needs to be replaced. Iv been quoted anywhere from $500 to sky's the limit. Supposedly the part is cheap but labor is several hours. Does anyone know if there is a quick fix to this problem? Anyway of tricking the system or shutting something off. Im just concerned about getting the warning to stop coming on and im not looking to spend the money to replace the whole thing at this point in time. Thanks!

Seat sensors have been a problem in BMWs since the E36 series, at least. Get a good indy BMW shop to do the work, don't waste money at the dealer.
There really isn't a good alternative -- doing it yourself is iffy since it involves the airbag sensors. You REALLY don't want an airbag going off...you think **this** repair is bad, you'll have a cardiac arrest at what an airbag costs. |
