I had some bent winter rims at home, sold them and got tints. etc etc. I do get little surprises sometimes where my mom ordered me my DCI
Haha that's awesome, my mom wouldn't even know what to get. Just a side note theres a lot more young people on here than everyone thinks and a few of them are extremely active posters. As time goes on even more will start to show up since these cars are getting cheaper to buy. I agree with what the other guy said, being spoiled has everything to do with how you act not simply what you receive.

None of this matters if you cant drive you know that right? Start practicing now and when you are older youll be one of the fastest out there. There are plenty of guys faster than your faster car if you know what i mean.

Mods dont mean shit if you cant use them. Waste of money. Unless you like to have them just because.

It's a full time job loving your car. I get shit for it from my wife and daughter. But my son totally gets it.. Putting the car in storage for $200 per month. The car has never seen winter. Will drive my van or borrow the wife's car. It's not just a car, it's a whole thing I didnt know until I bought it. Now it's part of my personality...

This is an interesting post to say the least!! My .02, I started with a civic out of college years back. Quickly paid that off and got into modding when i had a mazdaspeed 3. Wouldve still had the car but it kept coming up with random high priced maintenance items. I manage to pay that off to trade in for this 335. I try keep my monthly expenses low and not really go crazy with too many other hobbies. I probably spent around 3k in mods within 6 months lol.

Why bother even posting this unless you are looking to get trashed by everyone?

Very few people read the newspaper stories about the Powerball winners and think "Good for them", even if they are sweet, deserving people...

He posted it because the OP asked. Most of us don't have such an inferiority complex that we have to ask ourselves, "will all of the people on the forum (most of whom I don't even know) still like me and be my best friend if I provide a truthful answer???"

Yes, apparently his parents have money. Given the choice, I think most of us would prefer to HAVE a lot of money rather than NOT HAVE a lot of money. So why flame him for being in a financial circumstance that the vast majority of us would prefer to be in?

Hell, this is a B M W forum. If there's anywhere that the "hate the wealthy for being wealthy, cuz I'm not wealthy and it's just not faaaaaaiiiirrrrr......" snivelling seems out of place, it's here.

And yes, when someone wins the lottery, I'm happy for them. Though I still think that the lottery is a tax on people who are bad at math...

Agreed. All of us would prefer to have money rather than be poor. But this isn't a referendum on that topic. The issue is something closer to: would you rather have rich parents raise rich, spoiled brats, or have rich parents raise financially responsible kids that appreciate the value of a dollar?

And whether you are a nice person or not ( im sure you are ) its almost impossible to know the value of the dollar when you are handed
very expensive things that lots of adults cant afford at a young age for free.

Shit I want to give my son some good things when hes older but ill be damn if hes getting a car that goes for 40k+ even If I could afford too.
Now if you got handed a free E36 or something I could kinda understand.. But even that would be an awesome project.

I haven't heard one word from him that indicates that he is "spoiled". If he's doing the things that he is supposed to be doing (work/good grades/etc) and is polite/respectful/etc, then I'm not going to try to monday-morning-quarterback his parents.

To some folks, an E36 is fine. To others, a new Civic is fine. To still others, a 335i is fine. And to still others, a 911 Turbo is fine. It's all relative to their financial situation and personal viewpoint on how much to help out their kids with a car. Some parents will not help at all....it's all on the kid. Others will match saved money. Others will buy a new car for the kid....some cheap, some expensive.

A 335i is a great car, and very expensive when new. However, a used one can be cheaper than a new Honda Civic.

Hell, there's a good lesson to be learned here: If you hold on to a car longer (in this case, kept within the family), you mitigate the effect of depreciation over time. As a corollary to that: You can get a lot more car, and have it depreciate less over time, if you buy used.

My wife and I personally plan on providing our kids with our current daily drivers when they hit driving age, so long as they are doing the right things and acting the right way. The cars will be 10-12 years old by that time (F-150 and VW Passat wagon), but I will have maintained them and know that they are safe, solid, reliable vehicles. The kids will have to pay for insurance, gas, and maintenance. Failure to act appropriately or check the above boxes, and the car gets revoked. But that is what OUR plan is.

Some of the people in this thread are in seriously privileged positions and very lucky!

I have what I have paid for by me only from pure hard work. I still consider myself to be lucky and privileged as I have a steady well paid job in this wobbly financial climate

Agreed, The fact that I can afford any semi current BMW + have a project car and own a house I feel my hard work paid off.
With that being said I would never purchase a BMW for full price I shopped around bought used did my homework and secured
an awesome deal that was within my budget.

Paying 500+ a month for a car was not in the cards for me id rather have a nicer house and find a deal on the same car for way less.

Like others have said though as long as the kids not a jerk it is what it is, Aftrer all we have to expect this on a BMW forum.

I wasn't necessarily calling him spoiled, just saying that that is the theoretical issue.

I think the point is that, whether you give your kid a 335i, a Porche 911 or a 86 Civic, are you allowing them to realize the value of it? Are you giving it to them regardless of their behavior or work ethic, or allowing them to earn it (either financially or through some other means).

I'd never force my 16-20 year old kid to pay me full, retail price on a car just to teach him responsibility. But I also wouldn't give it to him for free, pay the insurance, cost to maintain it AND pay for mods just for him staying out of jail.

To each their own, I guess. But I think we should look for the happy medium in there somewhere, depending on how much responsibility we're trying to instill in our kids.

Oh, I'm right there with you, but I just hated watching the kid get flamed, when he hadn't done anything wrong.

hahaha... This thread is funny as hell!

I have a career that affords me, my wife and my two month old. I save a few bucks here and there, for the rest I beg. It helps to have knowledge of cars to save on the easy stuff, I am a muscle car gear head so I have learned how to wrench on a car. I also started borrowing my families bimmers to track and mod on their dime first. Just plan, budget and learn the art of patience, you'll end up with an awesome ride in time.... oh wait, even a stock bimmer is an awesome car.
