I was also torn between MT and DCT. Had found DCT and I am extremely happy with it.. I feel DCT is my favourite thing about this car, well, may be second favourite to the exhaust note..

And I need to remove it from for sale section!! Investment opportunity has fallen through, which would have forced me to sell this beauty...

Hello.

First post in this forum. Have a quick question. Just picked up delivery on a 2013 335is today. When I unlock the doors, the car makes the usual "unlock tone". However, when I lock the car, no "lock tone" is audible. This cannot be normal, correct?

Welcome! And, cool to see you're local.
If you have iDrive, this can all be adjusted under the settings and lock/unlock options.

Impressions:

DCT - Wicked fast and a lot of fun once you started to get the hang of it (timing is a fraction of second between manual mode and when auto kicks in to either upshift or down shift). I definitely experimented with the transmission to find what it's shift point was. The sound on the Z4 and the responsiveness with that transmission still blew me away even after it being my second time behind the wheel and it married to the 2.0T motor.

However, I noticed at times, I was fighting the transmission regarding timing so as to avoid it shifting for me, and when I did have the auto-shift kick in despite being in M mode, and I got pissed off (understand that the transmission is doing it to protect itself but it still bothered me). I also noticed that I was looking at the console more than I was ahead and that really bothered me since there is no inherent muscle memory regarding the paddles and what gear you are in.

All in all, I felt that it has the potential, but I missed total control. At times I felt like a rifleman who has only fired rifles and you are suddenly given a full machine gun. Yeh you can spray bullets, but to control it is a whole different story.

I also test drove the stick and it felt okay. Frankly, my trade in (2010 Z) felt snappier so far as the gates went. I loved the 6MT clutch. It took a little getting used too but was effortless once you got the hang of things. 2nd to 3rd was odd at times but nothing I could not get over and getting downshift was easier so far as rev-matching and so on.

And the big thing was 100% total control.

After driving the DCT car and getting back into my old car, my old car felt more "cumbersome" but once I got the feel back for it, I noticed I was more in tune with the manual transmission than I had been in the past.

It is a lease and I can turn it in, but again, I feel like I have the F22 or Spitfire dilemma. Do you go for what is technically superior and can nail everything around it? Or do you go for what is more fun despite it not being as quick (regardless if it is a .1 second difference). Yes I do drive in traffic and manual does not bother me at all from that standpoint. I also track and auto-cross so the times are what appeals to me. Not to mention you do get launch control.

I will have to make a decision tomorrow but thanks for letting me think outloud.

Frankly, I am still on the fence and despite all the help, I am still unsure of whether I should take the chance on the "F22 technology" or stick to what I know that allows me full control.
Not a 335is owner. I actually have a 2013 E92 335i M-Sport. In my years driving BMW's I've had a 6 MT, Auto and I had a 2012 135i with the DCT and I absolutely loved it. Bar none it was the best transmission I've ever had in any of my BMW's. I think in the long run you will love it and regret not getting it.

Thanks for the added confidence =D

I am actually really looking forward to getting the DCT. Either way, the medicine might be difficult to swallow, but the cure is probably well worth it.

How did you like the 135i? My other choice was the 135is. I went with the 335is because it was a little larger and, despite the ongoing debate, the looks were more to my liking (I think it looks great, but the lines of the 335is were more up my alley).

Thanks for the post!

Not a bad question which actually leads to another question.

My question is the same as the OP. I changed the oil on my Z immediately once I hit the break-in milage of 1400. Anyone have any thoughts or experience?

Secondly, does BMW maintenance hold you to a specific schedule? As mentioned, I will be tracking and auto-crossing the car and would like to have the oil changed on a frequency that is probably more than the scheduled mileage and intervals for oil changes. Will BMW tell you to comeback or is it a "come as you want" sort of thing?

Thanks!

Lets put it this way without going into detail. I have my 335 now because BMW bought back my 135. I wasn't even allowed to drive it the last week I had it because it was deemed unsafe to drive.

While I too have the 19's, to be fair some folks prefer the responsiveness and compliance of the 18's.

Congrats man!! There are 3 335is that I know of in 15 mile radius now, two of which are in Lacey! Awesome cars, I settled a bit on options, but in the end I like it more with just bare necessities... I installed Cobb today, ets intercooler is on the way.
