I just got my car back for ANOTHER #4 injector failure ses light. Dealer ordered a PUMA. BMW ordered check of engine for carbon buildup. Found carbon on cylinder head. Dealer sent head out. Upon further inspection, dealer found oil in high pressure turbo, bmw ordered dealer to replace turbo & replace swirl flap. Fast forward a few weeks. Dealer gets parts back and reassembles car. During test drive, ses light triggers again. BMW orders dealer to replace ALL fuel injectors and to update software. I just got car back today. My car drives 100% smoother. Much much faster.....car drives amazing & shifts differently (better). Agreed with above poster, could be software related. I checked vehicle history at dealer, injectors had been replaced at random intervals since car had 13K miles. Kudos to Elmhurst BMW for a top notch experience. Although if the light goes on again, I heard the vehicle wire harness could be to blame. All work covered by warranty, total bill to BMWNA is $11,000!!!!!! Plus $1100 for last visits sensor replacement and $1700 for the visit before that one. My cost.....$0.

Michael, what is the model year of your car, the production month/year, miles on the odometer, and your driving style re use of the accelerator pedal?

2010 335d built 12/09, bought with 37k miles, now has 42k. I took it on 3 road trips to WV & Green Bay WI from Chicago. I drive it normally but get on it regularly.

I really think it was the turbo bypass valve that was the root of the problems. Before the fix, my car would kind of slow down abnormally while coasting, kind of like being in a higher gear buy not that dramatic. Dealer found oil in the high pressure turbo, that would foul the injectors I believe. Wow did my performance & gas mileage increase since getting my car back. I love this car. I also have a C5 Corvette with some work done to it. The BMW smokes it......until the Corvettes legs kick in at high rpm. However, I don't floor the Corvette every time I drive it, and the BMW's massive torque kicks in effortlessly and immediately making it WAY more fun to drive. Hmmm, I might sell the vette....or turbocharge it!

Hey Michael, I've had 3 vettes lol, just sold the z06 and got myself a 335d.
I have to say the diesel is at least as fun to drive. Top end though it would eat me alive.

I bet they are going to try a new DDE next.
My car's issue was on Injector #2 Zero Volume Adaptation at Min.

Looks like the DDE did it for most of the cars with this problem, however, this is the first time I am seeing it on #4 injector.

I still didn't get my car back. Last I know, they are trying the DDE.

It's shameful BMW has not figured out the cause/fix for this issue! They continue to just throw parts at the problem, which tells me they have not a clue.

It would be interesting if BMW would provide you with the faulty injector they removed/replaced so that you could send it out to a real diesel mechanic for testing to see if in fact these injectors are failing. One would think BMW would test the injectors they are removing to see if in fact the problem lies with the injector or if there is another underlying cause to the code being thrown.

Perhaps. Maybe a better way to ask is...Are the X5's experiencing similar issues?

In limited searching, I certainly don't see many X5 owners with the same complaints. Am I missing something? What's significantly different about the fuel, emissions, and control systems?

I question my fellow amigo "D"s are you guys using any injector cleaner? and yes, why is it that the X5 arent having this issue if so I have not heard off.

I just got my car back again. This time they checked the fuel tank for buildup, it was clean. BMWNA said to replace all injectors again, even though they were changed 3 times now in the last 3 months. Car runs great again, but now my fuel gague only goes up to 7/8 when full. That's going to drive me nuts. I will have them fix that when the SEL goes on again in 2 weeks.

Is it possible that X5d is considered a "light truck" for EPA rules while the 335d has stricter pollution controls? This would make the DDE programming different between the two.

I believe engine load has something to do with it.

Socom load on what the injectors be specific on this, I just cant fathom why our 335 are fairing worst than the X5d

Engine works harder in the X5. Perhaps the added resistance changes the characteristics of combustion. Such as more heat, sustained high pressure. I'm just guessing here but my BIL told me once that OTR big rigs run better when loaded vs. No load. He's a trucker.
