3 Stage Intake Manifold Question

So I've been reading about many of you putting on a 3 Stage Intake Manifold and getting an AA tune to get some extra power, which I'm looking to do very soon. I used Gavin@MMW's link to make sure that I have a N52, and then used MOTO69JOE's link to read the specs on the N52. In the specs it says that the N52 already has a 3 stage DISA? intake manifold. So what 3 Stage Intake's are you guys using and where do you purchase them from? If this is mentioned somewhere in another thread I'm sorry but I haven't found it. Thank you for any information.

US 328i N52 -> Single stage
N51 -> 3 stages

US 330i N52 -> 3 stages

Any 3-stage intake manifold for an N52 will work. They all have the same part number. Only the N51 and high HP N52 and the have the 3-stage installed from the factory. You can purchase them from a dealership or a online parts supplier like www.getbmwparts.com. There are places that sell used manifolds but I'm not familiar with them. I do know Turner Motorsports sells a manifold and tune package for a pretty good price.

So I guess I was looking at specs for a US 330 N52, where the US 328 N52's only have a single stage. Got it, thank you!

Not sure about auto logic. If you really want to unlock power and dramatically change your 325i you will need a tune that adjusts lift, duration, and timing of the intake valves. Why? Because, the 3 stage is a variable length manifold that works in conjunction (resonance) with the intake valves and timing on the intake side to make additional HP and torque.

All of this can be done for less than 800 dollars and it totally DIYable. Having an extra set of hands to hold harnesses and wires out of the way really helped.

Anyone on this fourm with an N52 based (not N51) 328i or 325 needs to do this! Trust me....YOU WONT REGRET IT! I loved my 330I for 5+ years. After the swap and tune I now have a newer one by (6 years newer) that is even better.

Please let me know where you were able to get a 3 stage manifold and tune for under $800. Turner Motorsports has a intake manifold and tune combo for $1696.87. And you say it's DIYable, how long did it take you from start to finish? Thanks.

2006 E90 BMW 330i 330xi - Sedan
2006-2007 E60 BMW 530i 530xi
2006-2010 E83 BMW X3 3.0si
2007+ E70 BMW X5 3.0si
2006-2008 E85 BMW Z4 3.0si
2009+ E89 BMW Z4 sDrive30i

Pieces and part numbers:

11617559523 manifold
11617579114 adj unit (DISA Large)
11617560538 adj unit (DISA Small)
11617559530 vent hose (for e9x only, I believe)
11617547242 gasket set
13547522361 throttle body seal ring
11617535850 screws (2)
11617535849 screws (2)
11617535851 screw

Bought mine from Bavarian Auto Recycling.
$402 taxed and shipped for manifold and both adj units.
Pick up the remaining pieces from getBMWpart.com using the part numbers above.

Search the DIY section for a DIY.

Thank you, my search will begin. Have you gotten a tune as well?

Up next! Still haven't decided between Evolve and AA.
I ordered mine a few days ago, so I can't comment too much on the manifold or the quality it's in. I'll update here - but $402 sure beats the hell outta OEM prices and difficult to communicate with junkyards. Just give them a call, when I did the salesperson mentioned I was the 10th to acquire about said product this week.
Looks like others have caught on!

Apparently, it's a bit pointless to install the manifold without a tune, so I'm waiting on that. But from Evolve themselves, they recommend you first get your bolt-ons in place before you flash. I just need to get an intake to couple with my manifold and exhaust. They said that's preferred, and they'll send a file in accordance with what I have in place.

Here's a stellar review and DIY:

Keep in mind, we don't use the vent hose. I believe you (e9x) do.

Is there a difference between the Evolve and AA tune? I live just outside of Philly and there is a great shop here, VAC motorsports, that does AA tunes all the time. After I get my new manifold installed, I'm more than likely going to them to get an AA tune. I'm worried if I try to do it myself I will end up with a CEL or something.

Not a whole lot from what I can tell. Evolve lacks the customer data and feedback that AA has earned over the years. Evolve is said to be a slightly more aggressive tune though. Maybe that'll suit my 128i best, not sure yet. Either way, when it comes to increased hp, throttle response, and better mapping of the 3-stage.. both hit all three points rather well.

It's kinda like, 'what oil do you use?' 'What religion do you believe?' hehe.

Here's Evolves thread:
