Solid Red iDrive Screen
Drove home for lunch, got back in to drive back to work and upon starting the car, the iDrive screen turned solid red for about 10-15 sec then solid black (off). I stopped the motor and ejected the key and tried again but it was still solid red/then off, but music still was playing normally from CIC.
After driving back to work, I let it sit for about 30 min and put the keyfob back in to try again and it worked as normal!?!?!?! I guess the car going to sleep somehow reset the video output of the CIC?? My car is a 09 328i with the CIC navigation and 40,000 miles under warranty. I did a search and have read multiple threads on here and bimmerfest with no solid answer on what is causing this issue. What I did learn is that when the iDrive screen turns solid red, that means the screen is getting power but no video signal. Issues that I see could cause this are: 1) Bad cable or cable connection from CIC to screen 2) CIC not sending out video signal...? Most all threads regarding this problem do not have a resolution. Has anyone ever taken their car to the dealership for this? If so, what was the solution? If you have experienced your iDrive screen turn solid red then completely off, was it a one time occurrence, or did it happen again? I've read both that it can happen once and never come back, and that it may come back randomly....? I am planning to drive this car on a 700mi road trip to North Carolina this weekend, so I need to either take the car to the dealer today with hopes they can not only duplicate the problem, but have parts and fix it before we leave Saturday morning.... Or cross my fingers and take my chances and drive it anyway. Any advice is appreciated |

I see the cable is only $37.78 on getBMWparts.com. My local dealership just quoted me $79 Although I've only had the red screen incidence that one time, I'm still going ahead and ordering the cable to have in case it happens again. |

I had this happen on my 09...twice. It only happens when I was playing my songs off the hard drive. It corrected itself so I never took it in for service.

I think it's a prediction for next weekend. Total domination.
