For me it came on once right on my navi screen saying the oil level was low. I expected it too because 8 bottles of the Castrol gives you 7.5L but it can easily take an extra bottle and a bit.

When I use 7-1/2 liters of Mobil 1 ESP, it perfectly fills to full line of dip stick. My point is 8 qts is very close to 7.5 L
The nice thing about this I have a 1/2 liter for top off which has been plenty for my 5000 mile change interval. FWIW, seems I recall reading here on E90 post or over on feat that full according to sensor is not as high as full in dipstick. But Axel doesn't have a sensor. So he isn't getting shorted that way. Reviving this thread as the 2011 is consuming a quart of T6 every 3-4K, which is an increase over the usual pattern. Regular oil/filter changes naturally. I do not see any leaks and got the Forge pipe from BPC last summer. Car is illiterate and I do see smoke under hard acceleration but not otherwise EXCEPT once in a while while stopped at a light while cold there is a cloud of smoke wafting up that makes me think the car is on fire. Any thoughts or suggestions for diagnosis? Thanks.

Buff puffs of smoke out the back to me says turbo especially if there are no external leaks. Maybe valve guides as well? I hope you figure it out, that consumption is most likely only to get worse over time.

What is odd about it is the problem -- clouds of blueish/whitish smoke wafting up at a red light -- only happens very intermittently. I think it happens more when the car is cold. I was sort of wondering if maybe the (ahem) empty SCR might be accumulating sort and then coughing it out under certain conditions.

From the way you describe it, it sounds like the turbo(s). How many miles on your car and are you the original owner? |

I think it's your ccv system letting oil residue build up in the intake/runners.
I have had blue smoke on start up after spirited driving and like many, i assumed the turbo seals were on there way out. I installed new turbos and the same issue exist. My OEM CCV system allowed a lot of oil in the intake/ intake pipes etc, which is why I have a provent catch can in the garage waiting for my return. |
