Gearbox Oil

Hi All,

I know this has been discussed a few times but despite reading through pages of chat, I don't feel 100% confident or educated - that's more a reflection of me more than anything!

I read about having the Adaptions reset, I don't even know what this means!
Some say that g/box software should be updated too......

I was planning on giving my car to an auto g/box specialist to change oil ect - will they know the above may need doing and indeed what the above is?!

Car is 335d and closing in on 100k

Any advice?

Re the kit you got the option of buying now a genuine ZF kit from Euro's(there deals alter from time to time but you click collect and you get a cheaper price than they'd sell you over the counter)

This works out a damn sight cheaper than BMW and trams specialist would supply and you've got the fluid and mecatronic sleeve too.

You change the whole sump which had built in filter then the person doing it needs to follow the correct filling procedure.

Once everything is correct in this department it's 100% recommended that the adaptations are reset, but if you chose to search out a software update which will upload the gearbox ECU data to the latest spec rove any known nugs(think iPhone)then reset adaptations which will enable a re learn procedure to take place car needs to be driven for around 60-100 miles and gradually it will acclimatise to your driving style

End result car will feel smoother, will feel almost like a different car you'll also notice a slight difference I suspect re fuel economy too

But it's worth doing on a car that's done 100k I'd expect to see sump sweating and mechatronic plug leak or partisl collapse internally.

Thanks Steve for the detailed reply.
I'll look at he ZF kit available and speak to my trusted local garage to se eif he's happy to do it for me.

Where would I find details on the correct filling procedure?

Filling procedure is all in the box ask gaz01 he done a nice little write up re his DIY experience of carrying out the service and I'm sure he'd agree that it isn't beyond anyone to do the job with some mechanical knowledge. Therefore garage wise they'd have no issues at all
