Cant the SCR system be deleted to avoid these repairs? I've searched around the forum but cant find much on how to do it.

would be nice if it can, it is environmental thing so might be very hard to find out, was once in the situation where I had only 300 km left before I will not be able to start the car again (due to the incorrect urea mix - old urea) and dealer asked me to top up with fresh solution and hope it will go away (i was 750 km away). He said that is extremely hard for them to start the car again after. Not sure how much true that was, but if it is hard, then I am sure the deleting checks/programming for that will be even harder

I believe with a good tune you should be able to tune it out. We even know which one.

So, to review...

It's not that the stuff has to spray or there's some mechanical problem, it's just that the computer goes bonkers and wont let you start the car?

Thanks.

Do you think its possible your hitch is putting pressure on the tank?

I think it would be nice for bmw to re think the design, build the tank a bit stronger and protect it a little, make it smaller if they have to, I don't mind to re fill urea every 5000 km as long as I don't have to replace it all cause the heater failed or the sensor goes bad, and why not designing the tank that has two compartments, one that gets heated and the rest flows into it and not two different tanks, that is just silly, the pipes get urea crystallization and nothing flows anyway

And the solution to that is tune it out? Sounds good to me. Any chance the parts will be damaged once they run dry? Can it be "reactivated" later by filling it back up?

I'ts not that I wan tot pollute the skies, but I expect this system will fail and I want to get rid of all these problem components in the car before they cost a bundle to replace.

Thanks.

BTW a tune can get the UREA deleted but at the same time you might as well delete DPF/EGR

I actually like leaving the stock exhaust and deleting the urea, I love not having the car smell like a school bus, the extra turbo and exhaust as well as performance would be nice, the no smell is heaven sent, and you can still tune and leave it all on. Just delete the erg and urea...then tune.

Trust me, it's not as bad as getting a Corolla two times in a row. Even just having it for a day is cruel and unusual punishment.

That's the thing. I scheduled for a loaner those two times and they still made me walk down the street to the rental shop! I guess my quick turnaround didn't warrant a loaner. Ah, whatever. It's not like the 320i they normally throw around is a prize pig either.

Anything to pass the buck, if anything a tune and delete all exhaust is a big plus, most BMW shops don't even know they sell diesel cars...

Ok amigos I got my car back and they say that my Urea had crytsalized itself throughout the system duh!! Well the SA states my that the tune might be my culprit and that if I hv an issue with this again they might void my warranty thats how STUPID they are on this. I told them AGAIN the Urea tank is defective and the tune does not interfere with it, my tuner garantees that and other i know of also say the same so WTF anyway 7k more and ADIOS Urea tank DPF/EGR!!!!!!

I'm concerned that the hot weather in the South adds to the chance of the urea tank/lines/sensors getting dry and corroding.

It seems wise for us to check the tank more often than every 10,000 miles. Maybe flushing and refilling it more often?
