SO, it's raining. I tried to turn on the air to defrost and...no air...needless to say I had to drive home with the window down to see. Not cool.

I installed the BMS cowl filters a month or so ago and haven't needed to use the air until now...I'm guessing it has something to do with the HVAC sensor, which I have zip-tied to a bundle of wires in the engine bay because I'm not sure what to do with it. Anyone run into this or know how to fix?

I did some searches and found that a bad battery can also cause this. I don't think my battery is low, though-no indication of that being the case.

I don't think one would have anything to do with the other. I've had the filters in for about a month now and no issues with the HVAC. I ziptied the sensors on each side nearby as well. I just kept them in roughly the same place.

I only saw a sensor on the right side. I didn't zip tie it in the same place, it's more like in the engine bay.

Edit: Checked again, there's 2. One has some cloth-type tape wrapped around it.

Maybe check the fuse for the blower motor? Since you use the system so infrequently maybe it's just a coincidence.

The filter can't cause the blower motor to stop working. Like mentioned check the fuse. The blower motor on my car is on its way out Making a lot of noise.

It was making a lot of noise, now that I think of it...but nothing that indicated a motor failing, just-noisy. I thought that was normal?

I'm guessing the fuse is in the glove box? I'll poke around. I have a warranty bumper to bumper still...Maybe I'll just see if it's covered. I wonder if they'll blame it on the cowl filters somehow? I'd hate to re-install everything.

People on this thread are saying water got into their cowl and burnt out the motor...it wouldn't be a coincidence that these cowl filters leaked in water and burnt out the motor. Also, I see a lot of mentions about the resistor being the culprit and not the motor. Is that the white piece that attaches to the motor?

Mine went out making noise, took it out and lubricated the shaft the fan rides on and it is as good as new.

I replaced mine and nothing, check the shaft and lubricated it.

Here's fuse #67, on one side it looks completely intact, on the other it looks cooked. IDK if it has to be fully separated to be blown or not. I've seen some fugly fuses that still worked:

As for some other comments I am not running these filters. Water should not get into the cowl filters anyways as the opening is raised. I guess a little water could get in under some unusual angle but don't think enough to fry the motor, but realistically anything is possible.

That fuse looks intact but does not look good. Just replace it and see if it fixes the problem. I have replaced fuses that looked okay to fix problems before so who knows. It does look like there was a short on one of the poles.

Yeah, I was just washing my car and popped the hood after. No water on top of the filters, it runs around them. They're angled forward and pointed at the hood so it would be really hard for water to get in there. A little water in the engine because I forgot and lifted the windshield wipers. Normally water runs around those and flows off the side. Not enough to worry about, just a few drops.

Both the 40A and 15A fuse that are related to the vents are fine. Changed them and same result. :-/

Saturday morning, early, my Wife and I went to grab some coffee and my Wife just hit the heater button since she was cold, not knowing about the issue and the vents started blowing air. I was paranoid so left it on for a while. Ever since, it's been working just fine.

Someone bumped into me on Friday while I was at a stop, it didn't do much damage other than leave an imprint of his license plate in my bumper but it was a hard jolt...wonder if that had anything to do with it.

Coincidence?

funny you had this problem,i installed bms cowl filters and after about 3 days blower stopped working....i took the filters off n put stock hvac filter back and after about two weeks blower worked again just like in your case.dont know if its a coincidence

Did you remove the HVAC sensors when you installed the BMS Cowl Filters?

all you do is take off stock hvac filter and put these.

Initially I had left my sensors connected and the blower didn't work. After removing the sensors, the blower worked. I don't know if that's coincidence or not but I'm guessing not based on my research of the sensors and the role they play with the blower.
