normal oil color?

hey guys-

a proud owner of a 2011 335d -- first diesel and first BMW - and i love it.

i have maybe a simple question which i cant really find the answer to here. i checked the engine oil and the level is fine - but the oil is black - like black ink... not having a diesel before - is this at all normal or a cause for concern? on my older petrol cars i would be alarmed...

any feedback would be great! thx...

Yes, that's normal thanks to EGR. Welcome!

Even my old Jetta Diesel vintage 1986 would dirty up my expensive Mobil 1 oil after just a few miles after changing it.

Not only is it normal, even right after an oil change, just running the engine a few minutes and it's pretty black.
