Once you get to the midpipes it's so far downstream i'm not sure what the purpose of ceramic coating would even be

I wouldn't bother past the downpipe. After that point the benefits of a hot exhaust are less noticeable.
On my modded cars, I coat headers, and downpipes. My BMW has coated AR Design downpipes. I'd like to think it helps out with performance a little bit along with slightly reducing underhood temps. With a fair bit of IC piping in such close proximity to the turbos, and the engine bay being as tight as it is, some heat management isn't going to hurt at all. |

I personally would recommend it for a track car and a car that is driven hard on the street as well. These N54's are notorious for getting very very hot especially in 90-100 degree weather. If I could do it all over again I would probably spend the extra $$ and get the ones with the thermal/ceramic coating. I'm sure the downpipes get REALLY REALLY hot and just like ^ said about our engine bay being a tight fit and heat is going to travel making the whole engine bay hot. Just get your downpipes coated just to be on the safe side so you dont have to worry about heat issues

If you you understand how it works and have the proper ceramic coating applied on your elements as a heat shield system it can do "miracles". We have our in-house developed ceramic coating, which is used not just in race cars, but in street cars. We use ceramic coating which contains nano gold parts for example for piston heads, for cylinder heads. We also put ceramic coating in exhaust ports/channels, turbos, downpipes, exhaust.
The main purposes of using ceramic coating in the engine: make a heat trap, which result improved burnt in the engine and keeps heat in the combustion chamber, improve VE and speed up exhaust gases. Based on our experience, when we use ceramic coating in a system and coat main parts of the engine, we can reduce the engine heat by 30%. On the other hand, I am rebuilting my e92 335i car including my n54 engine. Ported head, strenghtened engine block, forged rods and forged pistions, ceramic coating, custom made exhaust manifolds, two in-house developed single-srcoll turbo which will have some "twin-scroll" effect. Here are some photos about my ported and ceramic coated cylinder head, modified and ceramic coated valves, ceramic coated forged pistons. This is nothing new. I was getting piston dishes, skirts, combustion chambers, all coated on turbo engines I was building back in the late 90's. Not new technology, yes it works very well.

You are right, nothing new here with the ceramic. But devil lies in the details... We are also rebuilt my e93 M3 and will put ceramic coating on different engine parts. We have very good experience in NA engines as well. And soon we have a full ceramic coated diesel engine as well |
