Was tooling around with my OCC today when I found this. Should I hit up the dealer? It is actually quite small, about the size of your pinky nail across.

I don't know for sure if it is, but on my n54 the crankshaft sensor looks EXACTLY like that. I had to replace it and it plugs in facing upward (like under the engine cover) to the best of my recollection.
Without that sensor, or with a faulty one; the car runs in limp mode and throws a CEL.

This cable looks as something important...
Did you just start your engine or did you drive around with it? WOT? Did you try realoem with that number? I would check my engine bay but it's 00.36 AM here, dark, and my car is outside...

Looks like it is supposed to go to the Intake Air Temp Sensor on the passenger side of the engine. There is a little retainer you need to unclip from the connector and then clip back over the sensor and connector. Take a look at the photos below...

It is right there on the front of the engine. Took me 10 seconds to find it. I expect it is pretty important (why would BMW put useless sensors on? ) A flashlight and 2 minutes and it will be hooked up.

OK mystery solved. This oil catch can is coming off ASAP. The reason that plug is hanging is because my genius Indy shop swapped my OEM part with the OCC parts. The OEM part is shown in the last 2 pics. See the pictures for the story unfolding. Son of a BITCH. Anyone local to the central NJ area that can put this all back to stock? I tried "reversing" the OCC install instructions to no avail today.
How important is that plug anyway that they would completely bypass the design of it in the OCC parts??? Special thanks to jwzimm, for pointing out this ridiculous design flaw. Unbelievable. |

Maybe they had to bypass it so the OCC can be filled... I don't get it with that OCC. I know what it does but why is that thing so hugly difficult to install, even changing OEM parts as seen above...

Yea, I don't get it either, but I'm about the "get it out" from under my hood and into the recycling bin
As CombatNinja mentioned, it really isn't even needed for the N55. If anyone local to me has put in and removed any of these things, please help me out, as I would hate to run all the way the hell out to Fair Lawn or somewhere just to "reverse" this shit show. |

What I would like to know is why they just decided to by pass it, why didn't they just tap the lines so that the OCC would run along with it. |
