weird

Just looked on google at bmw 17 june evo magazine says 1 series production slashed by 35% and 5 series dropped by 37% ,but it does say production of 3 series is up 11% and x3 is up 14% but the bmw era of continued growth is really looking like slipping .so does it follow that there must be some fantastic deals on 1 and 5 series

At Christmas, my dealer had a Z4M sitting in the showroom (brand new) with about £5K off list price. They just couldn't shift it.

I remember being down the dealer testing various things just after the M6 came out. They had a full order book for the next 2 years on the M6 and had already taken about 10 orders for the Mini Clubman (that had only just been seen as a concept car).

my dealer

I had a long chat with my dealer today it does seam there are deals on M cars he even said that they have been offered extra m cars from time to time with the proviso they have to take a extra 5 off 318i not a real problem but they have to be paid for up front

He actually claims 13% is top dealer discount and anyone who is doing more is doing it at a loss just praying they get in to there quarterly quantity discount/bonus and if they dont they have made a double loss in trying to reach almost impossible discounts

This guy has worked for bmw 20+ years and said when we sold 50k cars in the uk it was just about right now that they are over 100k a year it is really hard work as the cars just get better and better why would anyone need to /want to change ,he also said the staff at his dealership are continually changing 3 left last week it really no fun any more .

He also thought that these discounts that are around at present cant last because dealers arent making enough money ,he explained that currys are making more money on a large tv than some of the deals that are going out on coast2coast and DTD it cant last as these huge showrooms /service teams have to make a profit ,i sort of understand where he is coming from .I guess 15 years ago it was unheard of these discounts but to get the sales they have to occasionally buy buisness in ,I sort of felt for the guy but i like every one i guess wants to save as much on such a big spend and if they go to the wall someone else would soon fill the gap ,

Has anyone heard of a bmw franchise going bust ?? well i thought not ,but when a dealer does have trouble it seems bmw uk steps in and finds a buyer its all done hush hush ?

Apology accepted.

The Z4M is a wicked car, its a shame that dealers have to slash prices the way that they do.

Wouldn't expect anything less, they definately don't want that sort of publicity!

Think back over the last 10 or even 20 years, and I bet almost all of your local independant dealers for a major franchise have been swallowed up into larger dealer groups.

I think BMW have very strict rules for their dealer network. I remember my own dealer telling me a while back that BMW were leaning on Scottish dealers recently as they felt some of the advertising (in newspapers) was 'cheapening' the brand image with adverts like "drive a new 5 series M sport for £2.99 a week" ... that sort of thing.

victims of there own success

I can remember when my local bmw dealer had a tiny showroom that held about 3 cars and employed about 10 staff ,but now i belive they have the largest showroom on the south coast and employ 125+ staff.also now have two other showrooms employing god only knows how many staff . 25 years they was privately owned but they now have been bought out by a American corporation, and the only reason they was sold is the two individuals that owned it wernt making enough money ,loads of turnover and worry but bottom line showed a loss end of financial year 06 and first six months this year has only shown a slight improvement

my first experiance of bmw was in 1984 i looked at a 323i e30 in silver and i was only 21 the dealer spent loads of time showing me all around it i was in love but at 21 know one would entertain me insurance wise ,it was another 9 years till i got my first Bmw and now are about to receive number 7 .but when i go in the showroom nowdays im sort of bewildered by all the choice specs etc etc ,I still love the cars but there is way to many around i dont like to use the word common but you know what i mean .

Anyway i cant wait till it arrives in late sept or early oct ,my dealer said that bmw uk are trying to get every unit possible to dealers come what may even week 38 build cars are a possibility for sept del ,they are desperate to put huge numbers in the press for cars del/reg in sept 07 .
