Steering Wheel Shaking After New Tires

Hi All,
This problem is actually with my GF's 2002 civic and not my BMW. She installed a new set of tires the other day and now when she hits 60 mp/h or over her steering wheel starts to shake, or more like vibrate. Weird thing is this happened when we put the last new set of tires on too, then went away, but now is back. Any one know why this may be happening?

If these are original equipment wheels, check for bent wheels or tire balance issues. If on aftermarket wheels, check for the above plus make sure that hub rings are used if needed.

Machine shops can make nice billet aluminum ones, but they tend to be quite expensive. I prefer the more inexpensive plastic kind, because they're easily replaceable and they don't get seized up on the hub.

although I agree with hubcentric rings. here in this case why would the shaking finally go away?

If the vibrations went away, that would be unrelated to the center bore, meaning that the initial problem was not caused by the wheel being off center.

A lot of things can cause vibrations or affect tire wear. Just an example, my tires were balanced just fine on a previous set, but my axle was going bad, and it caused some vibrations. After a while of troubleshooting, I figured out it was the axle, but the vibrations actually caused my tire to become egg-shaped. When we tried to rebalance it, that tire had 165 pounds of road force, basically rendering it unusable.

Probably incorrectly balanced by the shop mounting the tires.

^ yea, sounds like the tire shop didn't balance the tires correctly.
