Hotel recommendations for a weekend in Paris!

Hi guys,

The mrs 22nd birthday is next month, and I'm thinking of taking her away for it. She keeps going on about Paris, and given that I've never been either it seems best to go their!

I can get flights from Edinburgh for £130 for the both of us, I just need to get the hotel sorted.

Can anyone recommend me a hotel? Would like it to be in a good location, and not too expensive. Only going for three days.

Many thanks!

Thanks matey I'll look into it!

There's a groupon deal on at the moment I'm tempted by:

The reviews seem good, however I will check out the hotel you mentioned. Id it quite expensive or reasonably priced?

From what I remember...it was reasonably priced....most hotels in Paris are expensive and they are not all that...if you know what i mean....

I was quite lucky that I got upgraded ....because my room wasn't ready when i got there....not sure how the other rooms are like....

It's worth remembering, Hotel star rating in Paris is somewhat different to the rest of the world.

2* = Shite hole
3* = Shite hole with window
4* = UK 2*
5* = Pants down English Pig dog

I've seen cheap weekend deals at Sofitel at La Defence.

It's out of the way (it's a biz area) but the room should be quite nice. You can stay indoors a lot, ha ha ha.

Is the metro good in Paris? Instead of trying to find a central hotel (more expensive), if the metro is good it makes it easier to pick a hotel further out but within a short metro ride.

Metro is cheap if you buy one of the weekend savers, last time I went I paid €4 for the weekend travel. It's a pretty standard metro (stinks of piss and full of scum) but it beats walking.

Be careful staying too far outside the centre as Paris gets very dodgy on the outskirts.

The star rating for hotels vs there reviews is kind of worrying!

I'll reply on here also...

Right as far as your hotels are concerned, I'll try my best... The problem you'll find with Paris is, you put something in a decent location and it gets BLOODY expensive! If you really want to splash out, then it has to be either the Ritz, George V or the Mandarin Oriental... but you're looking at least 700/800€ per night!

There are 3 main hotels we use for when our top guys come over and they are Hotel California, Hotel Warwick and Hotel Vernet.... They're all just off the Champs-Elysées so location wise you can't get much better and due to 'economic times' aren't too expensive! I've never actually stayed in them so I wouldn't know, but everyone has always been impressed with them all.

Paris is split into arrondissements which are numbered 1 to 20... Ideally you really want to stay out of the 10th/13th and more so the 17th/18th/19th/20th as they can be a bit dodgy.

About the Hotel du Bois. I know nothing about the hotel, but I can tell you it's a very nice area. It certainly looks worth the money!

Also, I wouldn't stay outside of Paris either... La Défense is a long way out and a pain in the arse to get to, however one of the only places where shops are open on a sunday... It's the equivalent of Canary Wharf.

It's a pretty straight forward city to navigate round - just make sure you have a healthy bank balance before you come!

Don't get me started on restaurants....
