not that anyone has noticed yet, and this mod has been around for a while. and almost all aftermarket exhausts dont have this valve.

I guess I did the golf tee mod incorrect.

I pulled the vaccuum line off of the valve, plugged it with the golf tee, but I did not cap off the nipple on the valve? Is it necessary to cap off the valve? If it is I will run to auto zone after work and get a vaccuum cap but I did not think it was necessary. Can someone please confirm.

Doesn't matter, I left mine open. The ball bearing method sounds ideal though.

You will need a 5/32" ball bearing. It should cost $0.08.

You should push/work the ball right up to the frame hose clip which it can't pass.

If you do place the hose back on the valve then you should pin prick (2-3 times) the hose past the ball bearing towards the exhaust valve. This also applies to caps!! You will need to do this as changes is ambient temperature may create a vacuum and positive pressure.

I think I have a much more professional way to do this. Cost is $2.50. I used a "soft vacuum elbow. Vacutite part # 47408 1/8" x 5/32" (3.17mm x 3.96mm). Pulled off the vacuum line. Broke off a golf tee and inserted it into the vacuum line. Inserted the other end of the golf tee into the soft elbow. Wrapped the joint with gorilla glue tape. Put the elbow back onto the vacuum fitting on the exhaust pipe. Clean, cheap, easy and no dangling tubing or open lines. Took less than 5 mins.

Maybe a BB from a BB gun will work too.

5/32" ball bearing is just a tad larger (.1mm) than my 3.85mm ball. Mine was a bitch to move around in the hose... although mine had a stem on it...

I dont think we have the risk of a vaccum forming in the small amount of air left in the tube... the exhuast itself gets way hotter than any ambient temperatures, I checked it a few times after driving and the flap never closed at all... I will monitor it just to make sure... but i will not be poking holes in my hoses.

Why are you guys so fixated on the "ball bearing?" A correctly sized screw plugs up the vacuum hose nicely.

because its completely stealth, and would only be diagnosed as "something clogged vaccum line" not "owner pulled off line and screwed a screw into it and then put a vaccum cap on the nipple"

So what? If your SA asked you about it, you could just simply say that you found out that vacuum flap is only to reduce the exhaust's sound, and you simply took it out for a better exhaust note...bfd. Do you think they'll void your exhaust warranty for that?

And, do you seriously think that your SA or service technician would say..."gee, I saw a bulge in the exhaust vacuum hose and discovered a ball bearing stuck inside the vacuum hose...guess that was picked up while driving and magically got stuck inside the hose." Either way, if they see the hose either disconnected or connected with a bulge inside, they will know that you messed with it...but like I said, who cares?

They may ask you why there's a ball bearing stuck inside with the hose bulging?

The ball bearing will work in the tube a lot easier than your part. I have done this countless times in the lab at work to disable parts of a system. You want to make sure you have a good seal as you don’t want to disrupt other systems up line of the device.

A vacuum will form when the ambient temperatures cool off at night. How significant it will be is another mater so one needs to test the method to be sure. I don’t known how much that vacuum line pulls. If someone does I can calculate the possible pressure change for a give temperature change.

I tend to be overly detailed but care should be taken that it is done properly.

You guys are making a simple mod so complicated.... No tech is going to care to notice if the car has the mod done as it doesnt affect the way the engine or anything else runs....

Any ideas where I can get a 5/32" ball bearing in Los Angeles?
