That is brill.
Question for the friendly BIB on this forum: what do we do when the f****** c*** in the outside lane refuses to pull in and slams his/her brakes on, when all you want to do is just get past him/her and be on your merry way? Flash at them and you might get done for being aggressive. Undertake and you'd get done as well. |

I think the official line would be to stay a safe distance back and wait for said tosser to pull over.
In reality I would just squirt down the inside of the chump. I think. |

It's a tough one if they just won't move but I think I'd just stick with a flash of the lights or right signal indicator. And then wait. No need to go right up their arse, that's what Audis are for. Even though it's tempting to go down the inside I often think someone so oblivious could just pull left and wipe me out.

I normally just wait till they move over, you are allowed to flash but i reckon 9 out of 10 get pissed off with it. To brake test anywhere especially on a m-way is proper stupid, and at night 10x worse. Fine line between life and death there.
Only undertake if it's traffic moving in all 3 lanes and normally just pick the fastest lane and stay in it. What would have been nice is a little edit to see the language of the coppers inside the car. |

Just wait for the next season of 'Coppers, Cameras, Stop, Pursuit and Action Squad' or whatever it's called. And I'm 100% it's South Yorkshire and they're a bunch of media tarts they are.

Why all the bother about passing on the left?
Undertaking is a specific manoeuvre to pass traffic on the left whereby you seek to 'gain an advantage' in doing so. Staying in your lane and passing slower traffic / lane hoggers on the left is not undertaking, just watch their line for any movement left and keep your escape open. Blue lighters excluded, but why would you be in lane 3 catching up on someone like that when its quiet unless you were a knob jockey outside lane hogger yourself? Just stay in lane 1 and pass them on the left, that is not undertaking in any book. They are the 'slower traffic in another lane' that the highway code allows you to pass on he left. I must have driven 10 miles up the m6 this morning in lane 1 passing hundreds of cars on the left, just gently mind, about 5 mph faster. However, swerving from 3 to 2 and back to 3 is undertaking. it amazes me how many people seem unable to drive properly on motorways.
A few years ago i was driving from Edinburgh to Glasgow on the M8. It was quite late (11pm+) and the motorway was pretty empty. yet here was this little fiat punto in the outside lane, no traffic for miles either behind or in front of us. Whats worse, they were only doing about 65mph. 10 minutes I spent behind that idiot, waiting for them to move over into the lane that had been empty for some time. When they finally moved back over, and i passed them. I watched with utter disbelief in my rear view mirror, as they moved back out into the outside lane. WTF is wrong with the left lane? it doesnt have Herpes! |

The police stopped one cnut once on a programme and the bloke explained his reasoning that the lanes on the motorway were for 50 / 60 / 70 mph respectively. When the copper explained the correct usage he argued and maintained he was correct. I think the copper would have been fully justified in dropping him with a taser and then kicking fcuk out of him for an hour or so.

Spent the day in Dorset yesterday (cool story bro!),and came back very late. M27 - Matiz/Micra? In the outside lane doing no more than 65mph, me, in the inside lane (1 of 3 lanes) doing 75mph (wife's Fiat 500), Matcrap made no effort to alter lanes, nor did I, couldn't be arsed! M3 - Old Rover 75, as above, but on the two lane section just after the services at Winchester,I passed, and he then flashed me......... Wanker! M25 - Lane one all the way from M3 Jct to Jct 8,can't recall how many cars were on rails in all the other lanes, laughable really. Quote:

No need to do that, just stay in lane 1 and pass the slower traffic (him) on the left as you are quite well allowed to do. He is in the wrong, you would be behaving correctly by passing on the left in that case. Pullin up behind and flashing etc is more likely to get you nicked. I remember having Mway lessons after passing my test (1989) and the (ex police advanced) instructor said to me not to be afraid of passing on the left when a) you are maintaining correct lane discipline at a reasonable speed and b) the people you are passing are not doing either of those. Just not 100mph down the inside obviously. Never forgot those wise words Last edited by doughboy; 10-11-2012 at 02:59 AM.. |

^ agreed. I have no hesitation in passing on the left if these twats are in the wrong lane. Just need to be aware that if they're that much of a twat in the first place they might pull in suddenly without indicating.

As long as the hard shoulder is empty for escape, go fo it, quicker the better, with a blast of horn right along side - as usually those sort are half asleep and it makes them jump, gets their fists waving and their blue rinse wobbling! Last edited by doughboy; 10-11-2012 at 03:27 AM.. |

What works for me is when approaching or passing someone (on the left or the right) I glance at the bit of tarmac between their front tyre contact patch and the white line. (a motorcyling lesson learned) You can see immediately even a tiny movement towards you, and quickly tell whether its just a correction wobble or a committed move over. Looking at the vehicle itself gives you no real clue, although if you can see the driver then their body language / head movements can really help. Last edited by doughboy; 10-11-2012 at 03:33 AM.. |

One of these threads popped up not so long ago and I remember one of the regular posters here claiming that he never uses the left lane on a motorway because it's for merging traffic only!
They really need to add a second practical test for learners that focuses on motorway driving. I agree with doughboy, if i see miles of c*nts sat in the right lane and the left is clear I'll just sit in the left, theres nothing wrong with passing on the left provided you're not aggressively undertaking. |

The old chestnut of motorway driving being part of the practical test always pops up with people failing to realise that's not always possible. When I learned to drive the nearest motorway was over 80 miles away.
It should be part of the theory but it's not practical to make it practical.
