Weird problem just wondering if anyone has seen this.

2011 335d with the Harman Kardon radio/nav package. I have a 16 GB USB thumb drive loaded with music. My favorite directory has about 500 songs. About half of the time when I get in the car the radio starts playing at the first song instead of where it left off.
Is this common? Is there a way around it?

I have an iPod attached to my system with 11000+ songs and music video's on it. Everytime I shut the car off while a music video is playing, when I return it starts from track 1. If I shut it of while a non-video track is playing, it picks up playing from where it left off at. Took me a while to figure out it was only starting at track 1 when I shut it off while playing a video but now that I know I try to make sure it is on a non-video track before shutting it off.

Thanks for the reply, but all I have on my thumb drive is mp3's no video.

I will keep trying to figure out what makes go back to the first song - it is just aggravating to keep hearing the same song when I start the car.
first thing I am going to do is shrink the size of the directory and try to figure out if it is size or the specific song that resets to number one.

After you mentioning video's reset yours I'll have to check all of my songs to see if it is related to the way they were burned or labeled.

I had that with an old iPhone 3, but, as long as I had shuffle on it would start at #1 but, it was a different song, because it had shuffled.....make sense?

UPDATE there is another thread here about "battery unable to hold charge". Hooper mentions a desulfator to rejuvenate batteries. I also found another thread that mentions weak batteries can cause all kinds of weird thing to happen on a diesel.

I picked up a desulfator unit from amazon and ran it for 5 days on my car. I have not had the this problem with my sound system since I desulfated my battery.
My driver side door handle would often not unlock for me with my key in my pocket - that too is gone, it opens every time.

Not sure if it is just the diesel that has weird problems with a weak battery or not but it might be worth a try if you are having weird problems with your car..

edit - OK it happened again however, it was a cold day and the heating coils kicked (glow plugs) on to start the car, so it probably IS related to battery drain.
