$735 oil service at the dealer?????
I dropped my car off for its first out of warranty oil service. The SA is telling me that oil, filter, fuel filter, and intake silencer plus labor and DEF fluid top up is running $735.
This seems completely and totally outrageous to me! I was expected around $200-$250 at the most. My car is low mileage (22k only), but 4+ years old now. Has anyone else experienced this? I really am not too thrilled about this. Cheers, Paul |

Why the fuck does he need to replace the fuel filter at 22k miles? I had my old 328 up to 95k miles and didn't have to replace the fuel filter because there was nothing wrong with it. The silencer is just another filter you don't even need it.
And yes you are being raped |

I hope you didn't actually pay for that. You should never go to the stealership for out of warranty maintenance/repairs unless it's a very last resort. Instead, look for a good and reputable indy shop around your area. I know a lot of shops out there aren't too experienced with diesels but there are some out there if you keep an eye out. But yes, I'm not surprised with that price at all.

The fuel filter captures water from the diesel fuel and therefore needs to be replaced (I thought every 30k) as it has a limited holding capacity.

I need to do some research on local BMW shops here that are knowledgeable about the diesels....my guess is there aren't many. I did notice my car at idle was a bit noisier than usual, and had a weird pulsating diesel grumble...not sure if the new intake silencer addresses that or not.
I assume the oil change interval on these cars is around 10k-12K or so...so I'll consider these major filters as a once every 4 year thing, based on my mileage. |

There was a DIY posted in the last few months about replacing the fuel filter. That's probably a majority of the cost right there.
Also if they are expecting to bill you shop hours for the DEF evac process, that would be another hundo.

Oil change should be around $80-$90 with the bmw Value Service for the E90 models. Fuel Filter is DIY, and dpf fluid is $3/gallon at any truck stop. I actually am going to the dealership for my 6k oil changes because they charge $15-25 less than what I can buy my oil and filter shipped from getbmwparts.com.
EDIT: heres the value service from bmwusa.com http://www.bmwusa.com/standard/conte...-value-3Series

AND they scrape the DEF filler area again!
When I got to the dealer, I showed the SA the brand new bumper (#2! it was replaced after the car was scraped by a girl not paying attention last month) and I even OPENED the DEF flap to show him how it opened and to be extra careful opening it. You PRESS the little raised triangle. Sure enough, it comes back with wrinkled screwdriver marks AGAIN on the left side, which shows the techs are trying to open the flap with a screwdriver on the LEFT side by PULLING it. I am pretty pissed off right now. WTF?? I'm not having any more paint work done to the bumper as it's a tiny little issue that only I see, but I'm not happy with Century West BMW right now. Called the service manager about this as this is the THIRD time they've done this.

I agree with you that I would do as much as I could myself and find a trusted indy for the rest after the warranty runs out.

I bought my 335d used and there is a screwdriver mark on my bumper where a dumb ass thought it was needed.
Makes me wonder about what they are doing under the hood.

yeah you really dont need to dealer for any of this, and if you find a BMW indy they dont need to be experienced in diesel, none of the items you are looking to cover are diesel specific. Ive done these all in my garage with no prior diesel experience and none was any different than a similar job on gas and none in my opinion was worthy of more than the minimum charge time for labor. A dealership realistically should be able to do all of those jobs in the minimum labor time assuming the minimum is 1 hr.

NWCT335d the same way they are SUPPOSED to change AIR filter every oil change and Mines has been on since I bought it and has 38k on it, they way I knew it was the old air filter is that i REMOVED the cotton swab on the bottom of the air filter and they never changed it, the same goes for HVAC filter amigos check it out this filter hinders your AC, mines was not cooling enough at 73 degrees i installed JB cowl filter and damn it i gets cold at 76 degres (ok amigos I live in Puerto Rico so dont rag me out) here JB's link BTW thanks Terry I love this product!!

Unbelievable. Be sure to take the online survey and give them the lowest numbers. You'll get a call from the GM of that store and maybe even bmw na for some kind of make good offer.
