thrust rod bushing replacement
2009 335xi Sedan
Dealer told me the bushings are leaking hydraulic fluid. I noticed my steering wheel is squeaking a lot when I turn the wheel, and handling seems to be getting slightly worse. I believe it is time to replace the bushings, but from what I've read, folks say they opt to go for after market rubber bushings and not the fluid filled and softer OEM bushings. Can anyone please recommend me some? I found these, which appear to be what I'm looking for. Will these work? https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/bmw...nt-31126768818 |

Never mind - from what I'm reading, a lot of folks just upgrade both front control arms to the M3 version which will provide better handling. I'll probably just do that.

On the xi your upgrade options are putting Strongflex poly bushings in the stock control arms, or Syncro Design control arms.
The Strongflex bushings come in two hardness levels, red and yellow, yellow being harder. I have the red ones. On this page they're the two "front wishbone bush 4x4" parts starting with 031528. http://www.strongflex.eu/en/45-e90-e91-e92-xi-4x4-05-11 Syncro Design control arms are here: https://www.facebook.com/SyncroDesig...3861976048403/ They're pricey, I think like $400-500/set. You can message them on facebook to get details. But they're fully assembled with spherical bearings. An upgrade over the Strongflex bushings for sure but you have to decide if you want to spend the extra coin. |
