Tune with no charge pipe?

Is this a doomed to fail scenario?
Most likely going for mild cobb tune, possibly pro tune down the line.
No plan to do intercooler or downpipe any time soon.

If I run with this tune and stock charge pipe am I flirting with danger?

I do take my car on road trips and need to make sure I'm as reliable as can be.

I just blew my OEM charge pipe - on a long road trip - on my 09 e93, and I'm only running the mild BMW PPK tune. Those fuckers really are fragile.

On the upside, car drove fine for 400 miles (to nearest dealer in Albuquerque, NM), where pipe was replaced under CPO warranty. Car just wouldn't boost, of course, and I was worried about sucking dirt in through gap at failed end of charge pipe (at throttle body).

Moral of story: Upgrade your charge pipe.

Yikes. So a CP should be on the menu. Leaning towards cobb unit. I'm sure it will do the trick.

Now, I am CPO. What would the SA's view be of a non OEM CP?
They have to know the stock one sucks.
I am concerned with it under stock boost!

I'd be ok with swapping it before service. But if I don't need to would be great.

I've had great luck and understanding from SA's in Austin, Scottsdale, and now Albq.

No way a properly installed aftermarket charge pipe should be an issue. My opinion.

Everything I have read indicates it's completely random and not worth gambling on especially if you take long road trips.

I installed the Cobb CP and it fits perfectly, I had a bit of a tough time with it and I have read others who have had a very tough time but it should only take half hour or 45 minutes to install.

That is really encouraging.
You think it would be best to call ahead and clear with them or just do it and explain later?

Is there really much that could break which they dan blame a non OEM charge pipe for?

This is N55 so there is no diverted on the pipe.

Surprised. I thought it was in easy install.

Nothing they could blame on functioning aftermarket charge pipe.

We've had a few people return the Cobb CP for poor fitment. I'd sooner recommend the ER to anyone else looking into one. Even VRSF fits better IMO.

I'm running the Cobb chargepipe w/forge DV for the n54 motor and no problems. Regardless of which chargepipe if you do a spot on install they shouldn't blow off. If the chargepipe uses the c-clip, make sure it's seated on the throttle body groove.

I'm surprised to hear about the Cobb CP fit. I thought it would be a better design.

Anyone use Burger CP?

Just pick up a VRSF CP. Very affordable and great construction, why pay more for the same part if there is no performance or quality difference?

15min install, I wrote a DIY for those worried about it.

Burger is a little cheaper it seems. Is the vrsf that much better?

Would you say this install is a simple one? I'd hate to screw it up

1. According to the websites Burger is $239.00 and VRSF is $194.99.
2. VRSF has lifetime warranty
3. Read the DIY posted above, it is an extremely easy install, especially if you have an aftermarket intake already.

The vrsf is the cheapest option. I got tuned on my factory charge pipe but it shattered a few weeks later doing a pull on e85.

Snatched a VRSF affordable, quality, functional and got to me quick. For the n55 I'm pro VRSF, as we don't have many options

+1 VRSF. Great value and fitment was spot on. No-brainer.

Yes. I have a JB4 and my charge pipe blew within 5000 miles of my installing the JB4. I had previously purchased one and just hadn't installed it so I installed it. Took 15 minutes.

I have the CP-E one - its hard to tell the difference between stock and an aftermarket charge pipe once they are installed.

Compelling. Think I'll be budgeting this into my tune. Definitely appears to be the single point of failure

Cobb is fairly new to the market with the CP so it's actually not too surprising.

VRSF, ETS, BMS, CPE and ER have good fitment.

I have had a cpe chart pipe since I picked my CPO 11 e92 up, plenty of dealer visits and they don't mind. It is a must do mod. Even untuned
