brakes squeak

5400 miles brakes squeaking, anyone else have this issue? Want to know if it was a common issue before I call for a service appointment.

Normal in a BMW if you drive really mellow all the time. I took mine in for same reason and they told me that they're just going to take it out to a parking lot and slam on the brakes in reverse a couple times to break up the glaze, and then charge me for it, so I might as well just do it myself. So it did and it worked like a charm. Every once in a while they start to sqeak again, so I'll just repeat the process once or twice when the opportunity arises and it goes away.

LOL. I'll have to try that. I'll tie down everything inside first.

I'm taking mine in to Hassel for that exact reason, this Thursday. My breaks squeak only when I DON'T press on them; when I do press on them they stop squeaking .
This is the second time I'm bringing it in. The first time I brought it in they shaved down the pads and it went away for exactly one day and came back worse than before

Good luck!

Haha, that's the first I've ever heard of this... I'll take the car out to the 1/4 mile in reverse and do the brake slam...

LOL! Yeah would be a little extreme but whatever's clever...

Actually one of the times I did this I decided I might as well try a couple reverse 180's LOT'S of fun once you get it down!! After doing a few, I realized that HAS to be the reason why BMW puts reverse up next to 1st - as you whip the front end around and tap the brakes, it's extremely easy to pop it into neutral and then into a forward gear (compared to standard manual setup).

Yes, it's an issue that some people experience. BMW shouldn't charge you for it though, it falls under maintenance/warranty.

Of course it falls under the warranty car has 5k in 9 months, I was more concerned if this was a common issue that other have experienced.

Wow! Amazing... I went to an empty parkade and gunned it in reverse a few times and slammed the brakes. My fiancee almost had a heart attack during the process. Absolutely no squeaks at all now. My brakes are now dead silent at low speeds! I drove through the parkade with the windows down to confirm. Thanks for the amazing tip!!!

I am soooo going to have to try that reverse thing. My 06 has had this squeaking for some time now and the shop has done nothing but say that there is nothing wrong after I made them adjust the sensors since I thought that was it at first then the pads. I hope this works

Ok, I tried it this morning and still seem to have a squeak although not as loud now. I guess I'll try again in the morning and see if it improves.

I have the same problem and i have 5300 miles on my 08....the brakes squeak sometimes when come to a slow stop, but the most annoying part is when your in slow traffic and it squeaks without having your foot on the brake. All you hear is tweet...tweet.....tweet........tweeet...ahhh anoying. I went to the dealer and they cleaned the brakes up and they said these brakes collect alot of dust and squeak sometimes. It stopped squeaking for about 2 hours then it started again. Im so glad i ordered a rotora 8 piston brake kit for the front and 4 piston for the rear...hopefully this will remedy it. lata

Changing to a BBK will not necessarily remove the possibility of brake squeak. It has to do with your brake pad material being deposited on your rotor face. This can happen with a Rotora BBK too.

You guys crack me up...you oughta try putting race pads on your car and driving on the street....now THOSE make a lot of noise..but they stop on a dime. I personally dont give a rats ass about brake squeaking noises.

To the rest of you..yes...you can "bed in" your brake pads again...by going in reverse and slamming on the brakes a few times. You could also do this by going 80-5 mph four or five times. This is how I break in new brake pads anyway.

Good luck to all.

Just what some others said ... it is likely caused by your brake pads (glazing, or uneven wear), and/or pads deposits left on your rotors.

Changing your OE calipers/rotors for Rotora BBK will not solve the problem.

Get other brake pads (organic pads e.g. Axxis DeluxePlus).
