Oily Mottled Effect

Hi,

Anyone know what the hell has happened to my trim in the attached picture? and well, perhaps more importantly how to fix it..

Granted, my motor needs a good clean and i'm planning on getting my man to do it next week.. but wiping the trim seems to do nothing, and frankly it looks like ass.

Any thoughts?

Some sort of silicone/oil has got onto them I'd say.

hmm... so it's not something common then.

i find it strange that its just the trim (around the whole car, both sides) that has had this effect, as if they have not been finished properly..

Mine has that too and most one of the ones i've seen have this. Could be the water, limescale.

The effect is surface oxidation caused by extreme degreasing on the shiny trim.

It's due to cleaning with TFR (traffic film remover) or other strong detergents and not waxing / coating afterwards

They use it at these hand-car-washes and it jet washes. It fixes easily with a bit of a rub & quick wax coat or polish spray etc.

I never wax my car as that is for homos

, I just go to £5 hand-car-washes and this always happens, so the only bit I clean are these trim pieces, even a rub with a bit of mr sheen on a duster will sort it.

i never wax mine either... get someone else to do it!

they must have cleaned my car with an oily rag when i first bought it.. iv not had it thoroughly cleaned since then due to the shocking weather, so will hop straight on that.

i'll make sure i point it out specially.. (and no, i don't go to a £5 hand wash place)

You're just badly organised and can't multi-task. Doesn't take hours it's all in the wrist doughboy........something that should come naturally surely.

That's cause you have an SE and it only shows on the shiny black msport trim.

Doughboy is right though. A bit of wax sorts it out straight away.

The solution is vinegar

Its water spots caused by the crap in rain. White vinegar and then a quick wax will sort it right out.
