How often should I change my oil?
I have a 2011 328i and i feel that the oil change schedules BMW has laid out are too far apart. Does anyone change their oil in between BMW's scheduled maintenance? If so how long till I do an intermediate oil change? 6K miles? 8K miles? Also, if I plan on doing intermediate oil changes, would I have to tell the car mechanic not reset my oil change schedule? Would BMW void my maintenance warranty if they found out?
Thanks~! |

I have a new 2011 E93 and had the same question. I plan on changing it myself at 7500 and every 7500 miles between the BMW 15K mile changes.
My big question is do I wait till 7500 miles for the 1st change or do one earlier? |

My dealer generally charges about $105 with an occasional coupon for an $80 change (make sure you ask for an "Interim Oil change", not a complete Oil Service). Since DIY is $65 for the parts, I gladly pay $15 or even $40 to avoid the hassle and get a good car wash in the bargain.
And the dealer will normally not reset the countdown so the next free change is not delayed. Tom |

I've been doing mine every 8K miles.
Since I'm in Europe, the dealer uses a BMW-LL04 oil (Castrol SLX 0W40). The oil changes cost about 230 Euros per (ouch!). I have my second oil change 31 May. I've already requested a sample so that I can send it to blackstone--I'm really curious to see the results. |
