335i DCT Launch Control

Gents,

It's cold out and the roads are slippy. Surely no better time for using launch control to cause some insane snaking up the road then!!

I am struggling to use it though, I must admit. I understand the correct way is to do so is as follows:

Foot on brake
Take off handbrake
Switch to DTC (one click, not press and hold)
Switch to M/S and then click to M1
Press the Sport button

Next is confusing. Some people say just brake boost to the desired revs and away you go, but that never seems to cause the 'chequered flag' which signifies launch control is working to appear, although it is reasonably effective.

Others say you have to 'kick down' the gas pedal, which means the car will rev like mad before the pedal is fully depressed. That, I have not had the heart to try, plus, I can't forsee/control the outcome - will LC engage and drop the revs to a sensible amount and then I just let off the brake? Will it actually try to launch against the brake at the high revs caused by fully depressing the pedal?

Has anyone managed to reliably use LC and if so, how? The M car variant is different by the way and can be controlled by the cruise stick, but that doesn't work on the 335i sadly.

Thanks
Matt

I believe matt you need to deactivate the traction completely. Then activate s6. then push the stick forward so that the flag shows.

You need to keep the accelerator pedal floored , LC will keep the revs at 5000rpm.
It will not go beyond 5000rpm.
Once you see the chequered flag you just let off the brake and keep it floored.

My experience is that you floor the accelerator. the revs will restrict at the optimum level rather than bumping of the usual limiter.

If I remember correctly, I had to press the accelerator and then pull the paddle, or something like that after doing the previous steps (either way it didn't seem to follow the process detailed in the manual ).

I tried this in the summer and it caused significant snaking and quite a bit of wheelspin (can't have released the brake quick enough and let too many revs build up), so I would exercise caution in these conditions

AP, you're deffo wrong about the TC in a 335i I'm afraid, though as you mention S6, that might be the case in an M car. I dunno. The 335i just has sport in or off, no settings for how severe.

Mowflow, I'll give your suggestion a try and brace for impact lol!!

I had mine spinning like a monster in 2nd up a hill at 50-60mph. It was after spinning hard in 1st and it continued into 2nd. I was just flicking the arse out both ways for what felt like ages.. But only like 5 seconds or so..

Left foot on brake
One touch of DSC (activate)
Select Sport
Activate manual mode and first gear
Floor accelerator past point of resistance, engine speed adjusts and chequered flag appears
Release brake, keeping accelerator down and it'll change up as long as you keep it past the point of resistance (kickdown)

Only can be performed once everything is up to temp and not in succession; it doesn't learn road surface conditions/grip.
