2011 e90 SE. 110k kms (70k miles?) Did the water pump, tstat , all filters, spark plugs, wheel bearing and control arm bushings in the last few months. Fml. But it's never broken down on me, most of this is basic or preventative maintenance, but has still cost me over 3k.

Hey guys, I wanted to bring this thread back to see where everyone stands. Wondering how many of you sold your cars.
I recently had to have my upper and lower control arms replaced. I went with German aftermarket to save money instead of OEM. I hope I didn't make a huge mistake. I also had to get 2 new rear tires as well an oil change. They said I'm gonna need new breaks soon. I will for sure go with OEM on those. BTW I'm at 48,500 miles. Bought the car brand new from the dealer, its been a long 6 year journey. Ohh I also changed the battery, went with OEM battery.

I'm a few hundred under 125k now and have taken care of a few more things:
- Clutch / pressure Plate, tranny, rear diff, radiator fluid change (118k) - FRM (119k, broke during new fob programming and covered by dealer) - Coolant Tank (120k, leaked at bonding seal) - boost solenoid (124k) IMHO, the clutch line is really maintenance and I'm still really digging this car. Total bill for all of the above is still under $800 DIY. Quote:

135,000 miles
2012 BMW 535i N55 Midnight Blue. When bought the car, it had 130,000 miles. on the way home Check Engine light pump up, code saids Ignition Spark Off, so I have replaced spark plugs, and coils. That didn't change anything, although, check engine light never came back. Just bought a new valve cover, cuz I can feel engine struggling a little on idle, and some times making squeaking noise, so failed PCV valve allowing excess crankcase vacuum, and this valve built into valve cover. Other than that car been pleasure! It is an Ultimate Driving Machine! Love her! |

Great idea with the aluminum foil Jalpa! You should post some of your tips and 535 differences in the DIY thread for others. Also if you have the means/motivation to cut open your old pcv valve I'd love to see if it failed in the same way as mine.
Oh, and to stay on topic: 85,000 miles 2011 E92AT Water pump at 40K by previous owner/warranty Radiator slight leak at 80K Valve cover PCV blown at 80K Valve cleaning hardly necessary at 80K Front main seal likely unnecessary at 80K |

2011 - 80k
22psi peak (cobb protuned) Mods in sig Maintenance: * Waterpump and Thermostat both failed at 76k * Plugs at 75k * Steering rack is slowly weeping fluid at the axel seals. No rush to fix this though. * Chargepipe replaced * All filters and fluids replaced at 75k * clutch was done by po through bmw at 40k. Flywheel feels a bit warped now at 80k. Clutch still holds current load just fine so not touching it until clutch slips. * Transmission bushings were too soft at 75k for current load (upgraded to uuc equivalents) * control arms were starting to tear at 75k (upgraded to m3) Car drives like new after doing the above maintenance. No gasket leaks (yet). Last edited by bNks334; 08-24-2016 at 03:47 PM.. |

2011 E92 - AT - bought at 50k, at 77k miles now.
BMW PPK ActiveAutowerke 4" DP Aluminum charge pipe Maintenance: -Charge pipe blew at 50k an hour after I bought the car lol. $200 -Oil filter housing gaskets and oil pan gasket at 55k under CPO. $50 deductible -Spark plugs at 60k. $80 -Air filter at 60k. $30 -AT Transmission replaced at 75k. $50 deductible (No real issue other than occasional slipping in 2nd-3rd shifts. With 2 days left of CPO warranty, I took a shot at getting it replaced and they definitely took care of me!) -A/C Evaporator at 75k. $^ (Once again replaced under CPO warranty as it's a common problem and the A/C wasn't as cold as it was previously, but still not a major issue.) Total Maintenance Cost for the Year: $410 Aside from oil changes, that's all I've had to do in the last year and a half that I've owned this car. It's been a dream aside from the fact that I really wanted a manual transmission... I continue my search for one that I like. |

N55 Engine
2013 E92 335 XI 6MT - loaded
56,000 miles on the ODO custom ordered FBO and Tuned since 1500 miles Besides preventative maintenance and then some (oil changes every 5-7K instead of 15K, plugs, brakes, etc...) never been in for mechanical issues.... knock on wood. Clutch still feels brand new. Did get the extended warranty just waiting for those oil gaskets and water pump to go. Been my most reliable car ever and a dream to drive |

Sitting at 87,000 miles. I did my belt, tensioner, and pulleys a few weeks ago. Suspension is still tight, and I got all of the common things done under warranty within the past 40k miles: VANOS bolts, OFHG, water pump, spark plugs.
I fixed an oil leak a month or so ago by replacing the oil cap. Pretty cheap fix I love this engine. |

Miles - 39,500 Initial issues starting to surface: 1) stuttering/jerking at mid to wot a. Fuel Injectors? b. HPFP ? c. Vanos ? my novice answer - Running rich, soot on exhaust and garage floor. Injectors. Taking it in next week for some regular maintenance. We shall find out. Doing oil change, transmission fluid (maybe), run diagnostics and find out the issue. Will need brakes soon. Tech also said maybe a re-flash on my tune. Spins at 3rd gear since algorithm issue with these N55's. My sig shows my basic installs. Only run 93. Any ideas experts?? |

Car and mods in sig.
My car just turned over 99k. Just did an oil change and new ZF trans pan kit with fluid and changed out the rear diff fluid. Car runs, drives and shifts beautifully. :

120,000kms yesterday. I've owned it since 84,000km. Tuned mhd stage 1 since 100,000km. I've replaced:
-spark plugs -pulleys and belt due to oil filter leak (didn't used oem filter, likely the reason) -charge pipe (didn't blow up but leaked boost), replaced with ebay steel charge pipe -tires twice but I also learned stick on this car lol As of now, the car needs: -valve cover gasket, been slowly leaking since I owned it -blower motor has been squeaking since 95,000 and is about to go out I think -clutch is clattery in reverse when cold -ticking noise from the engine when cold but my research deemed it normal |

~38k miles - HPFP. Had symptoms of extended cranking/starts when motor was warm (oddly enough) and hadn't been sitting for long but especially when it was cold outside and after sitting for several hours. Replaced under warranty. ~46k miles - Water pump. Cold weather outside saved me some headaches, I think. Symptoms of radiator fan turning on, running at high speed, then slowing down, and repeating. Water pump was replaced, but not the thermostat, under CPO warranty. ~46.5k miles - Spark plugs + leaking front passenger side strut. Strut not BMW's fault, but crappy northern midwest city streets. It's typical to replace the struts as a pair (as the advisor told me) but he was very honest and said things should be fine to replace just the one that was damaged. Said that even he would feel comfortable going that route if it was his. Vehicle required alignment and one wheel was a little bent so that was fixed too. Not covered under warranty. ~47.5k miles - Had a check engine light that would come on at seemingly random times, but mostly when accelerating on to highways. Pulled codes and 2C57 came up for charge pressure too low. The issue turned out to be a kinked EPKS hose to the valve cover. Hose replaced under CPO warranty. ~56.5k miles - New tires. Picked up Bridgestone Driveguards after reading some good things around this forum and others. I'd say the sidewall softness is in between a regular RFT and a non-RFT so it feels like there's some flex when turning aggressively, but the ride comfort and noise are WAY better so far. ~67.5k miles - Some engine work done: Oil filter housing gasket replaced as a slow leak developed. I'd estimate that I needed to add a quart of oil every ~4000 miles or so. Thankfully oil didn't leak on to the serpentine belt. Also needed to get the harmonic balancer replaced though as the car developed a squeak at idle that sounded like a slipping belt but it would only happen on cold starts after the car had been sitting overnight. It was found that the vibration damper/harmonic balancer was the culprit. Lastly, my AC blower motor started chirping/squeaking (especially in cold weather) so that got replaced as well (fairly simple DIY). Haven't sold the car yet, but I'm considering doing so towards the end of this year or next spring.
