tanks for sharing! I thought the blue 21 car was a Vanwall or 250F maseratti for a second and did a double take. Very cool!

Dave,

There was an MGB GT--a beautiful car, with a great fastback roof design. I always wanted one.

There was also an MGA coupe, which was very handsome in its own right.

Those are the only MG sports cars that I can think of offhand (not counting the MGC variants, which looked almost identical to the MGB's).

My very first drive was on a back road in Canada at the wheel of my Dad's 1959 Plymouth station wagon--when I was 11! We didn't tell my Mom.

ITNK,

Hey, glad you enjoyed the story!

Meaningful memories are always a good thing, and the opportunities to form them are all over the place. But keep in mind my friend Neil's observation: "Adventures suck when you're having them!"

Yep, sure did! He seems like a very nice guy--a rather a bundle of energy. He was charging all over the place, talking with the business folks, sales staff, mechanics, customers, and even the wayward tourists.

Maybe next time I'll get to meet Roger!

Leif,

Thanks! I see you're in Connecticut. If you get a chance, I suspect that you'd really enjoy a trip to the vintage or SCCA races at Thompson. Or Lime Rock, whichever is closer.

Malbolge,

Yep, it would be easy to mistake a front-engined Stanguellini for either a Vanwall or 250F, although both of those are significantly larger. Peter Giddings wasn't running at Thompson, but here's a photo of my friend Nick with Peter's 250F Maserati at the GMT Racing shop.

It still boggles my mind to think about racing a car worth somewhere between $5 million and $10 million!

Sean,

The proportion of the U.S. population that is certifiably car crazy has dropped an awful lot over the years. Fortunately, there are still a lot of us around!

I don't think Roger has ever encountered a car he couldn't fix. Good stuff, thanks.

It was a black MGA Coupe. Commander Terry Goddard owned it. (For a thrill google his name! Once you have, I shall explain more. Bismarck )

MGB GT

Later, another friend had one of these. I have never driven one, though wanted to.
Fast forward. Looked hard for an Z4 M Coupe for me. Didn't find a good one. My wife had a Z4 M Roadster. surprised me, selling it when I had a health scare. (morphed into my '06 C6 z51 coupe one day.) Think the Roadster was an '06?
