14 to 15% has been mentioned a few times, personally I would be looking down the AUC route, some very fresh cars on there with decent savings.

Best deal on a new e92 335i M Sport I could get was £32,300. Basic spec with no extras (Saving £5,700)

I decided to go the AUC route. Got a nice spec, two year old model with 11k miles, 19" wheels, sunroof, heated seats etc. Cost over £40k new. Got a great deal with Sytners, £1000 off list price, new road tax (£245) and paint treatment for just £24k back in the Summer

If anyone does go the AUC route - it can be well worth while checking when the dealers financial quarter end / year end is. They do become a lot keener to have some £££s in their bank as they near the end of their FQ . . .

I bought a 6 month old AUC demonstrator E92 between Christmas and New Year in 2008, they were very very keen to do a deal then, far more flexible than I'd previously experienced.

We're looking to get a new Mini Clubman for the missus over Xmas.

I figure December is a quarter end, and is bound to be quiet at car dealers so we might get a better deal say the last week before Xmas.

Anybody dealt with Mini recently??

The old saying is that Xmas Eve is the best day for a deal unless of course a dealer has sold plenty already which I doubt at the moment. Theory is they want that one last deal before Christmas.

Was in my local Mini dealer in the last few days, they have a few pre-registered cars with delivery miles which seems unusual for Mini who previously sold anything they had no problem. They had a nice White Cooper Clubby Chilli pre-reg, think it was around the 16k mark. There was a pre reg CLubman One something like 13k, not sure how those prices compare with brand new but generally prereg gives a reasonable saving.

They also had a Black Clubman Cooper with the JCW bodykit, I'm not a great fan of the Clubman to be honest but this looked very good in the black and the kit really made it look a bit more mean. It only had 3 or 4k miles on for about 16 or 17k.

I had a cunning plan up my sleeve along these lines. To make things swing even further into my favour, on a rag-top . But, had new front brakes/discs on Saturday and new rear tyres going on tomorrow, so would have to be a spanking good deal (going to hold onto my old tyres just in case I need to do a quick switch back ).

I also was planning the Christmas attack but worried the car I fancied would sell before that time and given its the best I have seen in 6 months of watching AUC sites my impatience got the better of me.

That's why I'm trying not to look (you'll notice I say 'trying') .

To be honest in my mind I reckoned buying now or buying Xmas week may not really make much difference. Yes they may get keener as end of year approaches but then again they may have sold enough to not need to be any more desperate than now and they may take the attitude of racking up the sales now to make sure of their position. Can't imagine any trader can't be pretty desperate for sales right now with a combination of time of year , economics , snowy weather etc etc.

My local Porsche dealer told me they'd only sold 20-odd cars compared to their usual 40-odd for November. Don't know whether this is a) just a line spun by a dealer or b) an actual true reflection across the board .

Don't know why they'd lie about having a shit month; it's not as if you'd feel sorry for them and get your hand in your pocket. Did go someway to explain the very good deals on cars and finance being offered...

...but like I said, I'm not looking .

No, but you could at least have offered to buy them some Kleenex as a friendly gesture
