Just finished painting brakes (Lots of pics.)

My brakes were pretty rusted considering the car has 50k miles on it so this weekend I finally decided to paint them. I've been debating wether or not to do it for a while and also what color but I eventually decided on black with white decals.

The actual painting wasn't that hard but the prep work was pretty annoying. I had a wire brush attached to a drill so that made it easier but it was still pretty tough. I didn't get them 100% clean but after a while I decided they were clean enough to start painting. I did one coat of G2 black paint on the calipers and 2 coats of G2 silver paint on the hubs. I also put anti-seize on the face of the hubs because taking off the wheels were one of the hardest parts of the process. I wound up having to get under the car and kick the back wheels as hard as I could a few times.

I know i'm most likely going to get flamed for putting a ///M logo on a non M car and i'm one of the firm believers in not doing that. However, when I saw the pictures from the guy I bought the decals from (http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=719338) I thought it looked great. I almost went with BMW Performance instead but by the time I realized i could have it was too late. Anyways let me know what you think and if you have any questions. I got slotted rotors, new pads, fluids, and ss lines coming in a few weeks which i'll hopefully have put on.

Sorry the first few pictures of the process are shitty. They were taken with an iPhone while I waited for my DSLR to charge.

Look at that 4x4 stance

Haha I know not for everyone... I like it though although I kind of wish I did BMW performance instead of ///M. I just wanted the stickers to add some excitement to the boring black.

I think it's cool, and I like how it's not the ///M colors. I would've just done "Performance" but nice work

black/gray paint came out super clean. "M Performance" is more lame than excitement imo though.

Well to each their own I guess. I like it although if I did it over i would maybe do BMW performance instead.

Yea I definitely wasn't going to go red. I was on the fence with yellow and blue though just because someone did some really good photoshops of them.

Thanks! I never really applied enough tape to the splitters and they were coming off so I decided to redo them while doing the brakes. The tape is because I wanted to have them stick on really well.

Yea I probably should've done BMW Performance instead of ///M, the M one was just an impulse buy a few weeks ago and it was too late to change.

Yea mine were rusted really bad... I was doing the brakes on and off since Saturday afternoon and a lot of that time was just removing the rust. Last night and today was really the painting of the calipers and hubs.

Haha fair enough. To be honest they've held up decently for reps although i'm a little disappointed... It could be because i've redone them like 3 times since I wasn't using enough tape before but theres a small crack thats only noticeable if you get really close on the passenger side splitter, and some paint chipped off the driver side splitter. The crack could also be from going up a steep driveway this weekend when I scraped the passenger side. That was the first time i've scraped either splitter . I really wish I just had them glued on from the start and if I did it again I probably would.

What product did you use to clean the calipers and the rust itself?
