Do you have a pumpkin or just the ATB unit itself?

as Phil said it depends if you are buying the full pumpkin or just the internal diff. as far as I know the diff itself has not changed, but later cars have welded crownwheels not bolted.
therefore if you are buying the whole pumpkin then it makes no odds, if you are buying the internals you need to know the state of your own car, rather than the vendors. |

OP - You need to find out if your car has a bolted crownwheel diff. What year is yours?
And you need to ask the seller if he is selling just the internals or the whole thing in a casing (pumpkin). If you have a bolted crownwheel type diff currently in your car then bingo, you can just transfer your own crownwheel onto the new diff and fit it straight in your existing casing, auto or manual transmission. If you have a welded crownwheel (post 2007 ish) then it's a pain as you need to get your crown wheel machined off your diff so you can bolt it onto the new diff. (this costs about £300+ if you get it done) |

If its a pumpkin I thought it was straight swap.
Also Bolted/welded is related to manual transmission only IIRC.

2007 on is a 13n which is a smaller quaiffe diff 2006 is a 10 n quaiffe diff later cars have crowned not welded diffs - this is not the case for automatics i have to wait for the guy to get back to me with all the info for the diff thanks steve |

Sorry phil, I was assuming it was a loose diff from the sellers details.
So are all auto's bolted then - I suppose there has to be some benefit to having a dull-box The main problem with a welded car is there are numerous different crown wheel sizes for all the models and final drive ratios, so unless you get YOUR crown wheel machined off, where can you get another 'loose' crownwheel of your required size / number of teeth? |

Not really 600 now. They are doing a shadow bidding so you wont know how much it will cost..

No bidding war Guys, not interested in that, dont need the hassle.
Diff goes for asking price to the 1st bidder who confirms it will fit their car. Info off my Birds invoice says - Rear Axle 33-878-130 - 335i Auto with Final Drive 7572055. For info, its just the internals as it fits in the orginal housing. Does that help? Last edited by YvesD; 08-30-2012 at 03:26 PM.. |
