Before anyone asks, I've spent the last two days searching and reading.

I was rear ended recently and am thinking about upgrading the exhaust on my 335 since it's coming off anyway. Here would be my goals/requirements:

Zero Drone
Moderate sound
Bolt on/off (no welding)
2 tips not 4
Decent pwr gains (10 ft lbs?)
Keep stock cats, may prefer axle back
Prefer price start with a 1 rather than a 2
Would likely need delivered to Chicago area next week.

Car is an E90 6MT. Can I get all of the above for my car?

The reason I asked the vendors to chime in is this: After researching it appears there are some commonalities and some differences in design. Some use an X pipe, some don't. Some do a crossover at the muffler, some don't. Has anyone correlated these variables to whether a car drones or not? My guess is you would find a pattern. Maybe it's when cats are removed, I'm not sure but I figured I would throw it open for discussion.

One more question: A while back I was looking at E46 M3's and one had an exhaust with carbon black steel tips instead of chrome/silver. I thought it looked awesome...does such a thing exist for 335?

I'd skip the exhaust and do catless downpipes. Much better power gains, no drone, and bolt on installation. And they sound GREAT with a stock exhaust to boot!

yeah definetely best approach catless dps and axle back for the looks (quads maybe). I passed fumes check in Italy with the above set up and retaining stock cats in the middle.

you say you want to keep your stock cats... and only want axle back...
you also say you want no welding and would prefer bolt on..

well, that's not possible... if you want to keep your stock cats, you will need to cut your stock exhaust off.. there is no bolt on from the axle back.

Assuming I saw it right, Eisenmann is bolt on with sleeves from the axle back.

when my shop installed the eisenmann the had to weld...

i THINK any axle back exhaust needs welding. so if you are looking to have a bolt on exhaust you will need a downpipe-back exhaust. and in order to have zero drone you will need one that has a resonator (i know that rennart has one with a resonator, not sure who else) or a high-flow cat instead of the OEM secondary cat (I think AE are working on one with a high flow cat)

but like other suggested. it seems like the best route for you is keeping the stock exhaust and getting catless downpipes.

to me knowledge, axle back must be welded. and right now i think the best axle back exhaust for a 335i e90 is the bastuck. theres a group buy right now if u want it.

Maybe I mis-understood, but I believe the stock exhaust was damaged and has to be replaced... so offering OP downpipes is really a sales-pitch and yes they might be a "more efficient" mod to some but I really think OP is looking to replace the damaged exhaust (mufflers/tips mostly). I could be wrong, sorry if so, but I just get annoyed when people ask for 1 thing and get replies for something else.

after the joint between the DP's and the midpipe there are no other joints in our exhausts, so you will have to cut/weld anything beyond the DP's

if your looking for a cheaper solution you could buy a set of RISS Mid Pipes and a set of Black Chrome tips from one of the vendors....take the pieces to a local muffler shop and have them connect the dots with some nice resonators and you should have yourself a decent setup for fairly cheap.

Car went in today and the total damage to my exhaust system is $1200...so it looks like a cat back is in order. I'm thinking in probably this order:

BMW Perf
Renn Art with resonators
AE or AA

Remember, the goal is quiet with absolutely no drone. Most every thread I read about exhaust, someone has experienced drone except for the BMW and Dinan axle back. RennArt is local, I'm going to see if they are around tomorrow to hear one of their systems.

Dinan has black tips. Might want to check HKS. Their exhaust is pretty quite in the scheme of things and goof power gains. They have 'burnt' tips....which looks kinda blueish. I am sure people have different opinions of that look.

I'll stay with either AE, HKS or CP-E... Those are proven system without drone

its funny. these cars have been out for 2 years. it took me 2 weeks to realize the midpipes and muffler are one piece.

can't get a new muffler wihtout cutting - which is stupid.

the autobahn is a nice system since it is flanged. i guess BMW did not want to deal w/any leaks, even though flange systems rarely fail.

i would look into HKS full exhaust - bimmerworld sells them for $1600 + shipping.

otherwise, be like me and do a muffler delete! buy some tips from JB weld, go to ur local exhaust guy, and have them cut off the muffler, and put on some pipe and tips. sounds great. and no drone---on e90s.

i bet it does, hows the drone in winter time? i wanna get catless but thats what im worried about.
