UR downpipes ordered
who here has these installed on their car? Has anyone experienced any issues with them, including fitment or rust? I've read that people have heard that they have rust issues... I'm looking for those who actually have them and any useful feedback they have for me 1st hand.
Also, generally speaking, who here has installed their own downpipes and who has had a shop do it? How long does it take? I have read that the subframe needs to be lowered which leads me to just pay a shop to do it for me. Lets hear the feedback now. Thanks guys. |

Just digging into the DP question on my car, I seem to remember something about the subframe also. I don't know how much traction you'll get in this forum, you might have to PM a couple of the better known XI guys.

I just got AR catless dps for my xi about 2 months ago so I can't speak for the URs.
Now I typically like to be my own mechanic, but living in a townhouse now and minimal space, I decide to have my dps installed. I cant remember but I think it was about $250 for the install which was well worth the money to me. The difference in boost response is ridiculous. The best way I can put it is it feels like the response you get from a small brake boost. It definitely minimizes the lag, not totally, nothing will with a turbo car, but it does a significant job of it. |

Thanks amclint. Appreciate that find, there's some helpful information for the shop that I'm having perform the install.
It's been a while since posting this... getting pretty damn excited to have these on finally. Hopefully these will be on by the end of this month. I've been super busy recently and besides one flop track day, haven't even really flexed my set up since it was installed around Halloween time this past year. This past weekend I was having fun with a buddy of mine down in Glendora and threw in some 100 octane and did a few map 6 runs for the first time. Enriched the fuel a bit and set the boost to limit 20 psi and target 18.5 psi from 4500-6000 rpm, 17 psi @ 6500 and 15 psi at redline. With some luggage and over 400lbs between both of our weights combined, the tires had a hard time staying connected to the road from 1-2 gear shift and 2-3 :-) I was stoked to dump his 220lbs off and stomp on it again. My plan is to go to the track sometime in February or March, on a cold night (cold for Phoenix) once the DPs are on, with 2-3 gallons of 109 octane with 100% meth at the same settings to see if that doesn't get me to at least a 12.0 AMClint- what map 6 and launch works best for you? |

Hardly ideal for someone who loves their car. Limited space and even more limited time has me putting this off invariably, but I hope to get to it soon. If you're at around 15ish psi like most here, and noticed such gains, I can't wait to see what they do for me at 18.X psi with 109 octane, 100% meth and some "cold" weather |

I have the URs. High flow, coated. Coating is flaking off and rust is setting it. The O2 bung sensors are soon to fail due to rust.

Well that's like the 3rd report of UR pipes rusting out. Maybe being in Phoenix (not driving in snow) will prolong the inevitable? NOBODY ORDER UR DOWNPIPES ANYMORE EVER AGAIN. My rust story will pop in a year or two probably |

I am fbo so I am probably pushing 17psi at the lower rpm range and tapering off to 14psi in the higher rpms.
In terms of rpms, I noticed gains at anything above 2500 rpms. As for the URs, are they that much cheaper than the ARs which are proven reliable? I got my ARs for about $750 shipped so I'm not sure how much of a savings there is with the URs. Last edited by pits200; 01-04-2012 at 09:55 AM.. |

I paid $430 for them, new. New price of AR DPs (Catless) is $879 IIRC. 50% enticed me and I bit it. We'll see. I'll be sure to let everyone know when they're on and how they hold up.

When/If I go with DP I will likely have a shop install, my time is worth far more than $200-300, and with the subframe stuff I'm convinced I'd be at it 8-10hrs. Also I highly doubt you have any rusting with URs in Phoenix, and from what I've heard the DP they sell now aren't as susceptible to it as the ones from a few years ago. |

Just installed ur catted dps yesterday
I installed the catted ur dps and put back on my meisterschaft catback exhaust (race version) ... It is extremely loud and responsiveness is siiick. Install was by craven performance in st. Peters, mo ... $250ish. Although upon cold start right after they took it off the lift I thought I had made a big mistake because the sound just was atrocious but the car has gotten used to the different exhaust flow and if I drive right (no wot) the owner of the performance shop said that it sounded like a lambo that he worked on a few weeks back.
In summary. I am very glad I got the dps and they look just like the ar design ones ... (Tig welded steel) Now I am waiting on my AA FMIC and m3 style front bumper and then I will do a semi professional video and post it on the forum for all to salivate over |
