The time you take to detail your car
I feel like this could go in either this section or the GD, decided here in case of pictures posted. Question is: How long does it take you to clean your car from start to finish? For me, it can range from 2-5 hours. A "full" cleaning that would be from the simple wash, to wax, to engine detailing, polishing, vacuum, etc, is when I'll be around 5 hours (maybe more). There's been times I've began around noon and didn't complete it until sunset.

i spend about an hour on a weekly wash. that is to wash the car down, dry and clean the mats and vacuum. If i have time to detail, it can be upwards of 4 hours. If i am doing a correction, it will be 8 hours. That is to wash the car, clay, correct, polish, wax, detail inside, wheel dressing, wax rims, etc...

I detail the M5 at the start of the season in April/May, then before storage in October/November: 4-5 hours (wash, dry, clay, hand wax, seal + vacuum interior, wipe down seats and dash, apply conditioner).
During the driving season, it's so easy to wash the car because of the wax and sealant repelling any real dirt build up. I just wash, dry, and apply a coat of hand wax if necessary as it just glides on at this point. Time taken: 1.5 hrs (the wheels take 30 mins on their own!). As for the 335i, I had it detailed in April. Wash, dry, quick detailer. 1 hour at most. |

Around 4 hours last weekend:
But that was for: Clean, rinse, dry, polish & seal. Wheels, tyres, exhaust and hoover. Happens every 4/6 months. Typically (on a weekend) I'll just clean, rinse and dry, then dress the tyres = 1hour. |

I'll try to get a decent shot later after work. Going to have to do some dusting off as I noticed earlier today that the wonderful pollen is beginning to get everywhere now around here.

When doing weekly maintenance usually 2-3 hours.
I did a full currection on my previous car ('11 300C) and spent almost 23 hours on it from start to finish. There is something that is just calming working on your car all day.... |

30 minutes or less. I wash my car every week; sometimes, twice a week. And because it never rains here, the car stays remarkably clean. I alternate various procedures to reduce time. For example: after washing and drying car, I may clay the hood and trunk and then use spray wax (sometimes I use carnauba wax vs. spray wax). The next week, I'll clay the top and front fenders and then spray wax. The following week, another section. I don't always dress the tires, but the wheels are always cleaned to reduce build up. I have hoses, cleaning materials, vacuum (attached to wall in garage), etc. conveniently located for quick and easy access. After washing the car, I spray Griot's Garage Speed Shine on the wet car and hand dry with a microfiber towel...leaves a nice sheen/shine. Before leaving the house, I may sometimes vacuum the driver's side carpets. Rarely do I carry passengers. No one has ever ridden in the back seat. Keeping the carpets clean may eliminate the need to do this when you wash the exterior of your car. If you walk across a gravel driveway or parking lot to get in your car...plant your gluteus maximus in the seat with your feet outside the car and knock your feet together to shake off any debris. Then swing your feet inside the car. I've been washing my own cars for years. Organization, technique, and proper cleaning supplies will increase your efficiency. Practice makes perfect - read Outliers by Gladwell about the story of success and "accumulative advantage". Semper Fi |

Got a week off of work so just detailed my car for the summer. Monday washed, clay bar, polished and first layer of sealant. Tuesday did second layer, sealant on wheels, vacuumed and scrubbed mats/floor with carpet cleaner. Today did final layer of sealant. Took around 6 hrs on Monday and 3 total hrs the last to two days. 2.5 to 3 hrs every other weekend for basic wash and another hr every other month to do things like leather cleaner/conditioner, wheel cleaner/sealant, vacuum and carpet cleaner. Looks so good right now I'm trying to put things off so I don't drive her out and get a layer of dust
