If a piggyback could come out for the n52, i think alot of progress could be made.
I think it comes down to demand. The tuners think that more people are apt to buy 335's than NA versions since in the long run it'll be cheaper for most people to get. You figure after you spend a few thousands on chips etc. you could have had factory boost with still more HP.
At the start there was a good push to develop chips and such but since the DME just adapted, the tune went the way of the dodo. If BMW never came out with the FI engine platform, we'd probably all be talking a different story right now.
I think over time we'll get something, but at this point keep wishing

according to sept 07 statistics, BMW was selling 328 sedans at a 3.5:1 ratio to 335's and the coupe ratio was at 1:1. (Some simple math would conclude that according to 2007 sales figures there are 3500 n52 3's for every 1000 n54 3's)

Bear in mind that this does not take into account the already sold N52 325 and 330's sold in 2006 as well as the:
3 wagon (E91) n52 (Not avail in n54 variant)
Z4 (e85) 3.0 n52 (Not avail in n54 variant)
All X3 3.0's n52 (Not avail in n54 variant)
528 (e60) n52
128 (e82) n52

From this info there seems to be a very large contingent of N52 cars available for FI. even a small percentage should yield a greater margin for tuning companies. (even more so considering it is an untapped market.)

I wouldn't count the N52 down and out just yet!

yes but im sure the tunning companies figure most of their market is in the car with more HP because they had the money to but the more expensive car. pluss when you make parts for a car in a show you dont want to put it on a car with less power, they want it on a car that naturaly has more. personaly i love haveing a natural flat 6 its more pure. but yes i agree there is obviously now a BIG market for everyone who doesnt have a n54 and they should respond

But of those, how many have tuning potential to aftermarket manufacturers? Most people who buy BMW's are plain Joe and Jan who have no interest or knowledge of tuning. The majority of tuners will go after the turbo variant.

Evotech has an ECU Tune out for the N52's. I'm getting my ecu reflashed this week (albeit i have an N51) but the gains should be similiar. :P
