Loaner is great. It's the little 4 cycl model but with most of the options. It's not a "beast" as Axel would say, but in sport mode and turbo's spooled I am not unhappy about it. It feels like there is more grunt there than my 328i convertible.
Also, this is the first BMW gasser that went over 2 weeks without a refuel, thanks to that eco pro and auto start/stop. |

I will say this, I don't mind that engine. It's not a 6 cycl but so goes all the other cars, including the Merc (can you imagine a squishy detached Merc having to run at 5k rpms all day to get moving). Of all the 4 cycls out there BMW's is amazing.
As for the steering, the electronic steering is nice in an xdrive suv... just don't like it in the f30. Can't wait to see the m4 and what they choose for steering. |

I think the engine is a better fit for the 1-series. IMO it feels like a RWD Passat with better NAV and slightly better suspension. Mine has premium pkg and I thought the seats were vinyl. Still amazes me how well our cars compare. The F30 328 had to loose weight, gain 2 more gears, and drop 2 cylinders in order to get our MPG. Long live the E90 335d. Even with all the DDE and Carbon Buildup talk, I can't wait to get my car back.
As for fogging in the x3 with auto on/off, I haven't noticed that at all, and I am in DC (also muggy) with a black on black ext/interior combo. I will say, I garage mine and have covered parking at work, so it doesn't ever need to be on MAX, even in 100 degree weather. The x3: as it's a soccer mom's car, I expected it to behave like that so, it doesn't have a high bar for me in the first place. My only complaint is the third window shape. In the black interior, they use a light grey roof lining. The third window has a very "front hood" slope. When I quickly check to see if a car is coming, it creates the illusion that there is a grey car in my blind spot. If they did an anthracite lining, or at least changed that panel, I would stop double checking as much. |

They gave me a x3 loaner... its terrible, i dont like it at all. The numb electric steering, the long turbo lag. The lack of any sort of decent styling... its just disappointing. :\

So mine went in for a repeated SES light, twice in a week, on Monday. They had previously replaced the back pressure sensor twice apparently, and this SES was "cylinder misfire". I previously did have an SES (few months ago) and they replaced #2 injector. Long story short, they pulled the head and sent it off to the machine shop to clean. I was also getting pretty crappy gas mileage.
So, what else do I need to know about the carbon buildup cleaning? |

Some on the forum have concluded that these random attempts by dealers are likely better solved by replacing the DDE instead. PL |

While mine was being machined, they also replaced the turbo and a few other systems. $10,500 total in repairs (covered by BMW). I never got a misfire code... only MAF codes.

JHayd, was your code being triggered at idle or under throttle? How did they link the code to the CBU? It seems like an odd progression. Also, how did you go about getting it covered? I know of a few leaks in my post-MAF air track (charge pipe seals) and I'm getting the code at idle. Thus, i'm hoping these are triggering the SES. Now I just need to find the time to handle them. Fingers crossed that it is this or a bad MAF sensor... Really don't have the time for this ATM, but there's no way I'm dropping 10k into the car (knock on wood) |

I have also been getting MAF codes... Past few months it has come and gone away on its own, I've cleared it a few times myself too... Yeah!!! Looks like that extended warranty is about to pay for itself! Lol

Notice any loss of power? As soon as I started getting the code, my max boost dropped from circa 28 to <21psi, and power dropped accordingly.

It was right after the warranty, but BMW covered it any way. After multiple fixes, they dropped a lot of man hours into it. Finally they told me they would not be covering it anymore and I sold the car.

Out of curiousity, is there anyone local who might be willing to swap MAF sensors with me for a few minutes so that I can determine if that is my issue before dropping 370 on the new part? No worries if not; I certainly wouldn't want an awkward situation if any issues started with your car afterwards, plus I should be able to sweet talk my way into getting somebody to help me out at one of the local parts desks.
