335d Latest gearbox update - highly recommended

New software has been released in December 2012 for couple of modules in 335d and today, finally have found some time to update my 335d with the latest data (2.48.1 - Istufe E89X-12-07-508).
Update of engine (DDE), gearbox (EGS) and CAS took me like 30 min or so and my car went to sleep mode.
An hour ago I had to drop off something and since my last few days very really hectic I completely forgot about this new update.

After only few miles I had big simile on my face. Gearbox works flawlessly, gears change so smoothly. It is hard for me to say about the benefits from the engine update because 335d always pulls like crazy but gearbox update was noticeable.

Anyone has done this or notice some difference?

My last update was done in July, 2012 with 2.46.3 data (I Stufe E89X-12-03-502).

PS.
If someone wants to do this update, I can do it remotely, please send me PM.

Very interesting to read that, was there any specific reason why you decided to update?
I do not know if an update has been released in the UK, can you do remote to the UK?

I don't understand what this update is for. Does it apply to US cars? Can the dealership do it for us or is this an "underground" secret update for people who want to modify their cars? Please elaborate.

I have US spec 335d and like to keep software in my car up to date.
Actually I just checked and this new software for gearbox was available in August 2012, when data 2.47 were released.

Im not sure if this update applies to UK or Euro cars, I just need to know your current software number to check. My old one was 7276383.

If your dealer will be willing to update your software, sure you can ask him to do it.

Why doesn't BMW announce these or do them during normal service calls?

Dealers are not intested in updating modules because it takes more time then mechanical work. Also sometimes they can brick your module and they (not BMW USA) will have to pay for the new module.

Lately I was fixing someone's Radio Professional because it was bricked. Forum member went to the dealer and paid $200 for software update of the 2 Radio modules. Dealer was unable to fix it, I did it last weekend.

It could take a lot of time.
If the update is unsuccessful the car could be there all day.

Question. How can you be sure the updated software did anything for the transmission? Could it not just be that all of the adaption values were reset to default when you loaded on the new software and really that is all you are feeling?

so I guess with this kind of thinking, after each update, when my gearbox will be reset to default and I should be saying WOW, "this gearbox works amazing". No, in the past I havent been surprised as Im now.

Being honest, I dont know what BMW change in settings but I have heard from couple of persons who have updated gearbox software in their cars (335i owners too) that you can really feel the difference.

Is this under SIB 12 17 12?
I see the 2.48.1, however there is no mention of this being applied to the 335d transmission.

these is nothing about E90 in this document.... and the software for the gearbox was available since August 2012 (ISTAP 2.47)

I have never checked, but I dont believe there was any recall for the 335d gearbox in the past. This is like with any other modules -BMW release new data files, but they dont call each time BMW owners to do the update, unless it is necessary. Also dealers dont like to play with electronic. When something is working, great, they will not update anything if headquarter tell dealers to do so.

I just did this update, notice big difference, sharing here on the forum and recommend to anyone who has a chance to do it.

Ok, I found this thread on the software update. As you said, everyone seems to be very happy with the update.

I have to see if I can get this update for the 335d - E89X-12-07-508

Thanks for sharing.

Question: is it possible to update this "module" without overwriting the entire DDE? Since I have an Evolve tune, I am loathe to subject myself to another writing of the Evolve tune at VS Motorsports if I can avoid having to do it. (nothing against VS, they are great and have given me great support)

Yes, you can update single module, but I doubt dealer will be able to do it.

If you are interested, I can do it for you, please send me PM.
