Here's what I did. We had an '04 Mercedes 230 Sport (mine), and an '05 Odyssey (hers). Everytime she left the house she wanted to take my car. It was our 2nd Odyssey and she had been driving one for the last 8 years, so she was sick of it. She likes cars, too. She had a 240Z in high school and college.

Anyway, I got fed up with having to readjust the seat, mirrors, etc... everytime I got in my car, and she doesn't pamper a car like I do. "You can always weave around the pothole dear, you don't have to hit it!"

I finally made her a deal. Since she liked my car so much, she could have it, but with the understanding that I was going to sell the Odyssey and get something I wanted. I liked the Benz, but it isn't THAT much fun to drive. Plus it looks more like a females car - Champagne/Pewter with really nice rims. It's a very pretty car. She loved the idea, and in 4 weeks my 335i Sedan will be here. The Odyssey has been sold - took less than a week. Oh and right now I'm driving my Dad's '95 Ford Ranger beater. I REALLY Can't wait for my car to get here!

As for the kids, they like sitting in the backseat where we can actually talk to them. The Odyssey was so big we had to yell for them to hear us in the back. Plus it takes $75 to fill the thing up every 4 or 5 days.

My 335i is a manual, so she won't want to drive it much. Although she can drive a stick as well as I can.

So sell the Odyssey, and drive what you want.

Thanks for the advice guys. In all honesty I really owe my wife. She’s doing very well thanks to all her hard work and education. It was her salary that pulled us through when I got laid off from the airlines.
A couple of years back we sold her 325 to buy the van. She’s been a BMW fanatic since way back. I had my X3 lease so she drove the van during that time, and when the lease was up I told her we’d get her another BMW. So she’s earned it. I just never thought I would have gone so completely nuts for a car. I absolutely love our 335.

I dropped a few bites and she actually seems interested in the X5, and it could be all hers. Looked around and found you can get a 03 with <40K mi for mid 20’s. Figured buying it used is the best way to go. If we have to sell it we won’t take the big hit on depreciation. Maybe I’ll give it to my oldest when he turns 16. The van stays also, it’s just too damn functional (plus it has heated leather seats, hmmmm).

The 335 will stay in the garage, waiting for those “special moments”.

Now I’m going to do some research on X5 reliability.

Thanks--

This quote cracked me up. Can't tell you how many times we've fought about her driving and my "obsession" about maintaining the immaculate condition of the car. Slept on the couch for that a few times.

Glad to hear you've come to an agreement though. If she's earned it, give her what she deserves.

Magna3: I think I might share the same sentiment here. I got an e92 335i for my wife...as I felt she deserved a car that she'd love to drive.

In order to keep my temptation down from driving this car...I ordered it in her favorite color AW (mine would've been Black Sapphire) and with the step (mine would have been the 6MT). i told her all along it's her car...it's her car... She didn't believe me until I did tell her that it was AW and Automatic.

Fast forward from order date in early march, until Euro Delivery pickup date of 05/23: I never thought I would like a white car so much! On top of that, this was the most fun automatic transmission I have ever driven, with paddle shifters and all! Driving it through Europe has really done a number on me...and uh, let's just say we have the OEM aero lip sitting in our living room already painted, wheels on order, Procede in the plans, and painted reflectors on the way.

She's already said "you don't plan on letting me drive this thing do you?" I'll still "let" her I guess...it will still be her car...I guess I'll have to "find" time to take it out from time to time....

im also in a bit of a dilemma too. lately ive been driving my parents minivan to school cause some punks are going around egging cars etc.. so my gf just got her license not too long ago and asked if she can drive. i thought about this for awhile and decided i had to let her drive it or else...(you know how women are) everything was fine until she was parking, she went to close to the curb and the wheels got scratched. luckily the rims are like 14-15' only so it didnt really matter. But after that incident a thought came into my mind.... what if she wants to drive the bmw? =( what if she comes close to the curb like that again and this time it was the bmw's rims? lately shes been hinting to drive it. she hasn't asked yet but i know its coming soon. if i say no shell probably think i dont trust her. and worst of all, i probably wont get any midnight fun anymore im still thinking of a way to tackle this situation.

Here is the problem. I have become a 335 addict. I want to mod the car but she wants a car of her own. I go crazy when she drives it, checking the rims for curb rash, soiling my pants when she pulls out of the driveway and scrapes the front bumper, weeping openly when she forgets her make-up on the leather seats.
In my desperation I have come up with the following solution, buy her a used late model X5. That would mean having 3 cars and that’s always felt like a waste to me. But I’m desperate.
I need some advice, should I just let it go? Or should I just get the 3rd car? I don’t trust my state of mind at this moment.

Bro. Its said and done. Instead of keeping the honda, sell it. and use it as a down payment on the X5. Then she can use the car to work and family. Its Big, its Safe, its a Family car. Its an X5

funny, I had an 04 x5 4..8is and could not get my wife to like it, she hated it, she loves her 04 sienna(minivan). so I traded it in on my hummer and believe it or not she likes the hummer, so I got my 335 and she doesnt like it, hahah, I am lucky,I guess. but now I am trying to talk her into getting rid of her van and getting the new X5 but she aint likin it.

the x5 is not a bad choice.. my brothers 4.8is has 100k on it and its 3 years old. still running very strong. my moms 4.4i has 68k and its running strong as well. just do your regular maintenence and you should be fine.

A couple of years ago I bought a 2004 Ford F150 XLT Supercab 4WD pickup, 5.4 liter 300HP. My wife said it was too big and refused to drive. I finally got her into the truck. Now I cannot get her out of it. I have the 335I all to myself. Have to admit though, big transition getting into truck again.

My wife TRADED the 01 X5 for an Odyssey! Says there is not enough room for the two kids and their stuff, How much STUFF do 2 kids need? Just got a 330i after M3 ownership for 12 years (e36) and booted her car out in the street (more complaints)....WHEN will BMW make a minivan? my theory is never bc they are SOOOO lame. Th Ody shakes like a kitten over every bump, with 2 sliding doors there is next to NO rigidity
