Check engine light on but no problems
I started my car this morning and the check engine light came on. Looked in the engine bay for a visual inspection and couldn't see anything. Started driving and doesn't feel any different.
What could the problem be? Any ideas? |

See my sig., you need to pull codes. Try your local auto part store, maybe they will read the codes for you.

If no codes are being thrown use Chevron Techron fuel injector cleaner (concentrate). It solves rpm fluctuating upon cold start-up. Also, for most BMW problems start off by scanning your car with the Peake Research Tool. It contains the actual BMW codes. If you want to register a newly installed battery for free (just buy a $10 cable) and google/download BMWLogger

Another thought, try tightening your gas cap. It could be that simple.

If it was the gas cap you would have gotten a gas cap warning for three startups before the SES light. Get it scanned. Usually it's something subtle and will get worse if left unchecked.

Tried the gas cap thing. Doesn't work.
I've got a service appointment for July 15 (earliest they can get). Just some back ground on the car. 2009 335 Dinan stage 2 4400 kms Last service was the annual oil change back in April And the HPFP recall also in April |

Yup, but it's not really an individual light like the SES light. It's a yellow warning that comes up on the LCD. After the third startup it assumes that you've checked the gas cap and there is a leak in the fuel vent/PCV system.

If it is the gas cap then it'll take a week or so to go away. When did you last buy gas?

The OP has an emissions related issue. Going to Autozone to have the code read is good advice however. Getting a BMW specific scan tool is better since it will show all DTCs present in each of the cars control modules. |
