ITM copy TPMS voided my warranty!!!

I felt the need to share my story on all the BMW boards I can find about the issue I had this week at my BMW dealer. A couple months ago I was putting together a winter set for my 335i and I had gotten some Blizzak tires for my OEM wheels, since my other set of wheel are aftermarket and I had spent a good amount of money on them, I wanted to keep them nice through the winter. So to save some money I bought a set of ITM sensors off a seller on Ebay, that's when the issues began. The set worked on and off all though December, so I decided to take my car to the dealer to see what the issue was. After I described it to my service adviser, they took the car for the day and then called me later saying that since the sensors were not OE and they had seen this before and that I would have to change them out with OEM and get the car flashed. They also told me that this has voided my warranty for anything electronic on my car. So the whole thing has now cost me over $1700. not to mention the amount I paid for the junk ITM sensors. I contacted the seller to see if I could get my money back and I was told once they have been installed they are not returnable, how convenient...
I would tell anyone...use this stuff at your own risk..now I have a void warranty just cause I thought I was saving a few bucks.

So not using their "OE" tpm sensors has somehow voided warranty coverage on ALL electronics in your car? Sounds like your stealership is feeding you a gigantic crock of steaming bs.

Exactly lol dude you got taken for a ride. I would have swapped the TPMS sensors with a different set through a tire shop before allowing the dealership to touch it. My OEM sensors and sensors sourced through Tire Rack have been swapped back and forth multiple times and on a handful of different wheels with zero issues to speak of.

This. You're not screwed. Call the head office and complain. Be firm and explain that this stealership is quite literally scamming you out and stealing your money. I hope you haven't actually paid them that $1700 (or however much the stealer wanted) for a set of tpm sensors and to "flash"/reset the system.

Know that you are still entitled to your warranty and do not stop ripping those dicks new a**holes until you get what's rightfully yours and they learn that it is not okay to lie to and screw their customers.

If i were you I will fight with BMW NA, try other Dealership. make no sense that TPMS can void warranty, how about if some one has Spacers and they take to Dealership for some Warranty work, will that Void the Warrant too ??

According to this stealership if you add spacers you'll void the warranty on your brakes, suspension, transmission, differential ,and drivetrain

Then good If they cant stand behind their own Warranty then how they can stand behind if any maintenance work is done which is paid by customer, technically they cant warranty any maintenance either, so take it to an independent shop and rob them of all the maintenance work they do.

I am about to add spacers on Rear but thinking of taking to Dealer for a last time Warranty issues on a CPO if they can find any, after 1.5k miles I am off the warranty. Now I need to think..

Sound like BMW Dealers are full of sh......! Before my e92 i had a 2010 Audi A4 brand new i installed coilovers, 20" wheels, ecu coded and a module to play videos on the oem screen and they never came to me with that BS. i had my car few times on the dealeship for repairs like oil leak and transmission replacement and never blamed the aftermarket coilovers or the wheels they just repaired the car with no issues at all!

$1700 is excessive for TPMS and a flash.. What else did they find that would cost $1000 to fix (400 for sensors, 100 reflash and 2 hours of labor rough estimates)?

I would threaten to bring attorney into this. There is a law that protects consumers from this type of BS. Your warranty is only voided if they can prove that aftermarket modification caused a component failure. Very important, so expect to pay for new sensors, labor, not sure why reflash is needed?? But give them hell, sounds like a bunch of BS there...

just buy the OEM sensors or some good one which works, take to independent BMW Auto shop and have them installed, I think some good BMW shops can even upgrade the SW too. Dealerships play hardball to get more money out of us..

After asking my S/A for a better explanation, and after he spoke to the tech, they had to replace the receiver unit, apparently the sensors did something to the receiver and froze/fried it. They didn't want to put in a new part and get it fried again hence the new sensors. The tech also told me that as long as they are the OE style they will work, I guess the ones Tire Rack and some other companies sell are OE so they have no problems. My S/A also said they take these seriously since its a safety feature on the car and they wont be liable for someone getting injured because something wasn't working.

How can the sensors damage the receiver? The signal sent out by the sensors is very, very small. The receiver is the part with the actual power. I've used aftermarket TPMS sensors in other cars without issues. The aftermarket ones looked exactly like the OE ones. I don't think there is OE style vs. aftermarket style, they all pretty much work in the same manner.

So you did end up paying $1700 since they have to change the receiver.
I think its good to buy OEM parts when we doing replacements.

BULL SH*T!!!!!
I'm a EE and there is no e'ffn way the TPMS sensors fried the receiver.
It's a low, real low power transmitter. Either the TPMS work or they don't.
Did you get the failed parts???

That dealer is a crook.
