i just replaced the air filter and cleaned the maf sensor and still having a rough idle it doesnt jump around it just sits under 1000 rpm but its rough.
im also having a loss in power. the service engine light came on at the time this started. could it possibably be anything else besides the maf??

Garage List
If you have the check engine light in the fixed indicator area only, then chances are it's related to the spark plugs/coil.

Sounds like the Ignition coils. I had the same problem one morning i started the car and it was really rough idle and i started driving like a couple feet then the check engine light came on. Took it to the dealer sure enough missfire on cylinder 4, after it was replaced ran smooth again.

With mine it tricked me, I replaced one coil and another went out the next day. Replaced that one as well as the plugs thinking plugs may have been causing coils to fail. Has been fine since. This was at 67K.

Mine happened at 39k and a week later for me another one went out, im guessing this is a common issue with the E90 325i. Im at 43k now havent had anymore bad ignition coil "knock on wood" lol.

Other than a jumpy idle, loss of power, what other symptoms follow a bad coil or plugs?
Reason I ask is that I scheduled an appointment next week to have mine checked out. I have that really bad throttle lag and jerkiness. I'm wondering if I could save a few hundred and just replace these things and cancel the appt if this could be the reason. The idle isn't rough, it does seem to stumble a little bit and at cold start up, the engine revs a little high and low before the idle comes down when it's warmed up a minute or 2.

update

Here is what I recieved via email today...thoughts anyone?

My shop foreman just got back to me on the rpm fluctuation and this is normal on start up, as long as there is no check engine light on and it smoothes itself out shortly after start up, this is considered to be normal characteristics (keep an eye on it though). As for the clattering concern, if it becomes more frequent we should book you in to have us take a look at that concern. If you notice any clattering while driving let us know or if you can stop by and show us that would be great. Some engine noise upon start up is normal.

one of the codes that popped up was the camshaft sensor on mine but from your experience i think im going to start with the plugs and coils. let me know if you ended up getting it fixed thanks.
