Life sucks...big time

I just picked up my new 335i sedan a few days and I already got ticketed for reckless driving. Was going pretty fast. And now will probably get my license suspended for 6 months. Does life suck or what?

Anyway, it's a Montego Blue with beige leather, premium and cold packages, and Sat/Nav. At least it was fun driving for a few days. I'll try to take some pictures soon and post. That's all I'll have to show for it.

It's an awesome car. Intoxicating! I moved up from a 2003 325i to this.

damn! You had to have been caught going atleast 95mph+ to know you have a good chance of a suspended license. You better lawyer up and get it pleaded down, take a class or something.

To you now, this situation sucks hard, but look at it as a possible blessing. You could die or kill others driving reckless, heck death can even happen when your paying attention. So try to learn from this and drive more responsible when you get to driving again..for real!

That does suck. I agree with HRC, but I won't preach - none among us is immune from the occasional lapse in judgement.

I gotta be honest. A cop can pull you over just because he wants to, and that's the charge he will use. It's one of those blanket charges that doesn't need much evidence in court and it certainly stings.

You should've been adhering to the break-in procedures

Oh, well it happens. Drive carefully next time and good luck with everything. I know our local speed limits/cops are draconian.; Save some of that turbo power for the auto-x and other venues

Not around here. It's a police state here in Northern Virginia. I was clocked at 73 in a 50 shortly after I got my E90 and I just avoided a reckless driving charge. In Virginia, 20+ mph is considered reckless -- just as many points on your license as a DUI.

liverpool - would you like the name of the lawyer I used?

BK is right - it is a police state here. I was going 82mph on I66 which has a speed limit of 55mph. There was hardly anyone on the road so I thought I'd hit it a bit.

BK- I am making my rounds talking to various lawyers. If you liked your lawyer then yeah, please send me the name.

I dont know about by you, but for reckless in NJ, you need evidence. You can be going the same speed for both reckless and careless(excess of a speeding ticket) but if theres no other cars on the road its only careless driving.

Not here. A high rate of speed is evidence enough of recklessness to warrant the charge. But liverpool, do talk to the lawyer I sent you (or to whomever you go with) about this issue.

Slightly OT, but I need to find a track where I can legally open it up, just to get it out of my and my E90's system. I don't want to race anyone, and don't want to wear out my brakes and tires with a bunch of twisties, I just want my car to enjoy very high speed without worry that I'll be pulled over and thrown in the slammer.

That scares the hell outta me. I can't recall a single time of having fired up my E90 335i and not gone at least 82. I don't even shift into 6th until north of that speed. My car regularly sees triple digits on the speedo.

Some of you may think it's nuts, but I don't consider that reckless driving. I have enough track experience to be in the advanced solo run group now. I drive more like a German than an American -- both hands on wheel, elbows bent, focused on the task at hand, scanning ahead and behind for 5-0 and for clueless drivers, radio off, etc. etc.

I'm glad I'm in Washington!

I got pulled over for going 95 on a 60 and was given a warning in Bellevue.

Liverpool, I was all prepared to preach, until I saw how fast you were going. It's the sad truth, but 82 is too fast for this area and although it seems like a leisurely walk in the park in a 335i, you're gonna get goosed. I don't know what kind of record you have, but if it's relatively clean you will be fine with a good lawyer. I have a friend (he's 45) who was doing 90 in a Tacoma on his way out I66. After lawyering up he reduced it to 19 over and that was that. It cost him 400 bucks for the layer, but well worth it in my opinion. His record was clean for 3 years at the time.

No shit! If you don't set the alarm in these cars, you're sunk. I frequently exceed 80 and have learned to reign myself in at 90. Having said that, 90 is nothing; smooth, controllable and very safe. I will say that stopping is greatly affected compared to it's ability at, say 65mph, but still decelerating faster than my Jeep at 65! Truth is, our highway road manners could use some revamping. I'm not saying we need to have no speed limits, but driving in Europe is so different it seems like we're int he dark ages. Cars are far more capable these days and should be able to do 82mph (130kmph), like the limits all over Europe, without alot of fanfare. Unfortunately there needs to be the etiquette to go along with it and I'm not feeling that's in the pipeline. People passing in any lane at any time at any speed. Idiots sitting in the far left lane defying anyone to go faster than the posted 55mph (my father by the way) and then there's the trucks...........I doubt I even need to say anything on that subject!

No matter how good you think you are, you/we share the road with others and you can't control others, no matter how good you are. The track is much safer becuase in general, your amoung more skilled drivers compared to grandman or whoever driving along side you.

Life sucks? My best friend's mother will be dead from cancer before the weekend is out...getting a ticket for wreckless driving while driving wrecklessly?

Sorry, I don't usually flame, I'm just hit with a dose of perspective today

Life becomes infinitely more clear when mortality comes into play.
Thoughts and prayers.
