sounds similar to me but i drive a less powerful car. The higher up i went the cheaper it was to insure. Had a compact where i was named driver paid 3K. didn't even do a year just 10 months and then got my current car. When doing quotes it was cheaper getting insurance on an e93 than any other bmws model even my compact. M sport made it even cheaper but highline made a bump in premium. Anyway I'm with elephant and pay 900 for the year call them up again and talk it through. The rarer the car in the age group the less the insurance as there are no risk statistics. so it is based more neutrally. Also due to a recent ruling all comparison websites have to do the same price now no special offers. Good luck car looks great if i could of justified spending the extra cash i would of held out for a 335i or D

Yeah I was astounded I could insure that and a few other 3 litres but it seems the same thing. I'm just shocked and rather annoyed they only thought to tell me after I invested 11 grand in a car that actually they will no longer cover me. I even checked on the day "You aren't going to cancel my policy are you." and they we're like 'Nope!' so yeah in a bit of a pickle. Hopefully I can get it all worked out otherwise I'll have to chop it in for something smaller which will be devastating to say the least. Especially after finally finding one that is so bloody perfect after all the hassle I went through with the accident, then the guy changing his mind etc.. Bah! Fingers crossed!

Welcome to fun and games with Admiral group, which Elephant is part of. The other day, they randomly slapped a £30 charge on my card with an accompanying email saying it was for "undeclared modifications" and to call them on their premium rate number for details. After the usual long hold, they explained it was because I'd not declared my tinted windows. Which I don't have. They said I'd ran a quote through confused.com with tinted windows, they found the quote so charged me. I had ran the quote, just to see how much it would cost, but hadn't actually had the work done. I then had to write them a "declaration" saying I didn't have tints to get them to drop the charge.

Could they just have called me to check? Of course, but then no premium rate phone call, etc.

You get what you pay for, there's a reason they are cheap.

Trust me if I had a choice I'd be going elsewhere! Having a look at getting it on our fleet cover now so thats a maybe but very dodgy odds of it happening.

I was formerly quoted £1600 that is fine to me, anything below about 2k is acceptable. I don't mind that. I get quoted anything between 1400-1700 for the majority of 3 litre petrol cars etc.. so not sure why this would be anymore. They even said themself if I was getting the M Sport 335D it would be £1500 and not an issue.

Wow these insurance companies are getting sneaky.

Running a quote with a mod should not mean you have that mod! This surely happens all the time when people are pondering future mods.

Very sly of them to check confused.com data. Maybe from now select your car make and model (instead of entering reg) and change a few personal details when getting quotes.

It makes perfect sense really. All insurance prices are calculated on risk and statistics; SEs are cheaper than MSports so are more likely to be owned by younger people, ergo more likely to be crashed due to less experience, and so cost more to insure. Either that or statistically SEs are crashed more than MSports.

Good idea Mob. I know, it's disgraceful really
The day I find a company which close to matches their low prices, I'm switching. They are like the Ryan Air of car insurance.

My name, I don't front my insurance. I've only ever had policys in my name. Funnily enough after a gentle reminder that I've paid the policy in full and they've signed the contract they seemed to have dropped the case and stopped contacting me for now atleast. Vehicle is showing up as insured and they have confirmed until anything else is decided I'm fully insured.
