Interesting I have never heard of anyone doing this before. That's not to say it is wrong.

But, wouldn't 'dirty' oil just make a 'new' filter, kinda old?

I'd like to know if anyone does this as well.

Years ago my Dad worshipped Amsoil and there synthetic oil.

The problem was that the oil was rated for (guessing) 10k miles but the cars all had cheap filters and it as recommended to replace the filter every 3k.

Maybe our filters are made for the long-term but thought I would get others opinion.

I have yet to change an oil filter without changing the oil.

My OCI is every 5k miles, which I know is overkill, but I do it anyway. I trust that a quality oil filter would last for that amount of mileage.

This is not an uncommon thing to do. I personally would be tempted to change the filter at 5k miles if I were doing 10k miles oil change intervals. But doing it at 3.5k miles for 7.5k oil change intervals may or may not be beneficial.

The cartridge/cap oil filter design is a really great design and in my opinion better design at filtering than the standard oil filter of most common vehicles, especially for longer oil changes.

The only way to really know is to have your oil and filters sent to a lab for analysis at the different oil change intervals and determine when you want to change your oil and/or
filters.

The OEM filters are well built to withstand an entire OCI. You could change it earlier but don't be fooled into thinking your car will magically last 300k miles because of it.

The less often you have to wrench on the filter housing the better.
