Haha. That's pretty funny. Looks like the Audi is sporting much better/wider tires as well. Probably assists in traction, even though I'd assume the BMW is RWD.

Most of the guys that I know that own Audi quattros do NOT have snow tires. They just run the M+S that came with the car. Some exceptions would be several of my friends in Colorado..and the New England areas.

My own driveway is roughly the same gradiant but another 30 meters longer so I understand this picture BIG TIME. Both the wife's GTI and my M3 sat at the bottom of the drive for the best part of a week, every morning we both walked to the end of the drive and drove away, myself to my work and the wife to school with the kids and in the evening we parked up at the bottom and walked up to the house.
There are few times when AWD is a real benefit and those occasions were the ones. |

Winter tires, summer tires, thin tires, and wide tires considered.
Just looking at the picture alone its clear the Audi's tires dig in deeper. Since you can see pavement beneath the Audi's treads and not really anywhere in the BMW's. That tells me the BMW is running more performance/summer oriented tires and the Audi is sporting something more all season. Unless Audi's Quattro has somehow managed to make their tires dig in deeper. Maybe just a heavier car? (e46 is 3,250 lbs, B7 A4 is 3600-3700 lbs) Then again, I'm no expert.

I would agree that the rubber on the Audi may well be better suited but there is no doubt it's benefit with quattro to climb that gradiant is probably the most telling thing. Only the OP will know this answer but another reason for the difference is tread marks is that between the time the BMW parked and the Audi it should have briefly snowed again. Just a thought. |

haha, reminds me of when it would snow and I'd watch my neighbors struggle to get up the hill in my neighborhood while I cruised by with ease in my STi.

Unless this is just after a freak snow fall, you have to hope the owner of the BMW learned how important snow tires are.
