Oil Sensor Question

I have read this forum and found some good info but I'd like to just verify my hunch on what it actually is.

The cars running good, I left it in a parking lot for 5 days when i went to florida, i had checked my oil level as its been -10 to -15 in Vermont this winter and i was about due for when i like to change my oil, i change mine every 5k full synth. Level was full when i left town. I had planned to change it when i returned. When I got back i drove my car home and when i shut the car off the yellow oil light iluminated, so i started the car back up and found that it said add 1 quart, i was surprised but ventured to a store, added a quart, still said add 1 quart, so i thought man maybe the sensor is going bad. I completed the oil change, car still says to add 1 quart, i intend to replace the oil level sensor does that make sense?

Assuming you let the car warm up when you took your reading a second time I would.say you are on the right track.
