Dinan S2 to S3...
it's like someone opened up a can of whoop ass!
Just had the upgrade installed late last week, so the car is still so called adapting but the jump up in performance is something I had not expected looking at the numbers on paper. Holy moly! Last edited by shortseller; 11-06-2012 at 05:37 PM.. |

Price to play
But seriously, to address the issue of cost. If you wait for the year end Dinan discounts and you have a local Dinan Indy shop that also happens to be matching discounts on labor...then it becomes reasonable as compared to other tunes offered in the market place. Plus the added safety factor is priceless to me, others may be more cavalier if they wish.

We need a dyno or the bottle of KY lube as evidence.

Different tunes suit different needs and expectations. Shortseller is satisfied with Dinan(which is all that matters) so it doesn't matter wtf we think.

for the record, changing ECU tune levels, you only pay the difference to get to the next level. I think it's a $500 diff or something.
Not including the Dinan specific bits they want as a pre-req for going s3. |

At the end of the day he wants a tuning solution that is a set it and forget it with warranty and is not really price sensitive nor interested in the ability to fine tune. Nothing wrong with that IMO.
Enjoy! Your new S3. Great setup if it fits your budget and needs! Personally I love messing around and have the ability to customize each and every part

Yup, s2 to s3 was $400 extra, OC & FMIC each $1500. Both FFE and CAI were not required and frankly didn't bump performance up enough for me the justify the extra cost. Dinan was offering 20% off so I took the step. If you take into account the cost of the car purchase new, the extra Dinan tune costs are extremely marginal and I get to keep my warranty w/o worrying about hiding my tune.

Not trying to bash, but I think this tune is overpriced for the power you get. You will be surprised if you try the COBB race map, or go for a custom tune.
But I'm glad you're enjoying your car. That's all that matters A dyno would be cool as well

I've now had my Dinan S3 for a year, and I was able to get mine using non-Dinan OC and FMIC (I have ER and ETS units). $400 to upgrade and a HUGE difference from S2, especially with the Dinan Free-Flow exhaust and CF CAI. Never a problem at the dealer, even though I'm completely out of CPO warranty. OP - congrats on your upgrade, and enjoy! And as far as the Dinan-knockers on here - "Illegitimus Non Carborundum"!

And yes, can't wait till full gains are achieved...also the CAI / FFE are not completely off the table, they just need to be added at more club friendly "used" price levels which looks to be not hard to obtain based on the used market place. So what the hell do I do with this badge thing? Thanks for all the support guys, like I said before "it's all good and getting there is more important than how we do it", these are great cars! Regards to all. |

Does power drop off sharply like S2 does at 5800 rpms?
Congrats on a safe tune by a reputable engineering co. btw

don't let the 0.5 psi increase be misunderstood. stage 3 adds about 30 whp more than stage 2 and deliver much more wtq also |
