Before and After Cobb AccessPort: 1. Acceleration Video 2. 1/4 mile 3. Dyno

2007 335xi (e90) w/ BMS DCI

I was on the fence as far as which tune to go with and ended up going with Cobb AP. When I was trying to decide between the different tunes I really wanted to see a video like the one I made. Hope this helps someone...
1. Acceleration Video

Tried to time the acceleration perfectly but that proved to be near impossible since the before video starts at around 62mph and the after starts exactly at 60mph.

2. 1/4 mile (will post the "after" time slip when I get a chance to get out on the track)
BEFORE

AFTER

3. Dyno Graphs (going to dyno 5/15/13, will post "after" graph soon)
BEFORE

AFTER (it's the second one... the first one is the baseline)

48hp gain and 85tq gain

Any comments on this before and after are much appreciated, not sure if this is what I should've expected? But I'm very satisfied!

I'll post some before and after dynos when I get a chance to get it back on a dyno again.
Now you need to flash your transmission. Let me know if you need help.

I would say that's a pretty considerable bump in power. Glad you are enjoying it.

Loving the Cobb AP's performance!

Some concerns though...

1. Is it normal for the screen on the handheld unit to flicker a little? Everything works fine with the unit but picture on the screen just isn't stable and that seems a bit odd to me (maybe something is wrong with the screen??)

2. Are the lines in this picture normal? My brother has a Cobb AP for his STi and doesn't have these lines in the background.

These lines are part of the background they chose for the AP... nothing to worry about

I don't know too much about it either. There's like this 40+ page thread about it and from what I've read it helps the car shift much better. That's about all I know since I haven't had the patience to read that thread. If someone would like to explain a little more about it here, at least 2 people here would greatly appreciate it.

You are referring to the Alpina TCU software. The Alpina B3 shares the same auto transmission as the 335i, but is "calibrated" to be more agressive for the road course environment and higher power output. Essentially what the flash does is overwrites your TCU (transmission computer) with the Alpina software to take advantage of the more agressive calibrations. This flash will only work on N54's with a build date of 03/07 or later, and the N55. What this will give you:

-Will show your gear in any mode:
(D becomes D1, D2, D3 etc)
(DS becomes S1, S2, S3 etc)
-Shifting in D mode will happen earlier and will feel smoother (6th gear at 40mph)
-S mode is more agressive and will shift quicker/hold revs longer (less slippage)
-M mode is more agressive and will shift quicker
-Rev matching downshifts in M and S are smooth/crisp/fast

Here is a quick video I made to demonstrate the shifting in M mode (not showing acceleration ). Hope this helps you all. If any of you would like to recieve remote assistance on this, I would highly reccomend Ken, @Wedge1967. He was the first to flash his transmission in the US and has alot of experience doing so, more than myself. OP, with your COBB, your transmission will be seeing unmodified actual load values being sent from the ECU, compared to a piggyback/canned tune such as JB/Procede. The Alpina flash can take advantage of this. What this essentially means is that your transmission will bump up line pressure to be able to better hold the increased HP/TQ output of the car without slippage.

All you need is INPA and WinKFP software with the latest SPdaten files, and a cable such as a K+DCAN OBD to USB.

Thanks for the vid! I am looking to get a tune soon and this def helps figure out which one I might want. I got a friend who is a Dinan rep and obviously promotes that but Cobb AP might be where I'm headed.

Glad it could help! hope these help as well... At the track the best I could do was 13.7 @ 99mph, from what I hear the Cobb unit is relatively accurate.

not bad! 0-60 4.2? So you just have a dci and the AP right? Are you running Stage 1 Aggressive?

Hey guys, like E90Company you need to order the cable before doing anything else. The K + DCAN (INPA) cable can be purchased on eBay for $35. You can find a few links posted that show you which ones are known to work, but not do... or you can play it safe and order the one on One Stop Electronics.

I can help you setup the software and flash your car once you have the cable through remote desktop (TeamViewer8). Feel free to text me or call 503-679-3538.
