Question Is it ok to use JB3 map4 with no other mods?

I bougth JB3 Pnp 1.3 about 2 months ago from Burger Motors. I don't have any other permormance mods (I have 19 wheels/tires and some cosmetic mods). I always use 93 octane gas. I don't track the car but I derive aggresively. My question is this: Is it ok to us map 5 or should I go down to ap 3 to avoid potential problems/codes?

Thanks for your inputs

Some people run map 6 as a daily driver with no supporting mods. There are a lot of variables that come into play like AIT temps. You may actually get better performance running map 5 vs 6. You will not likely get any codes if you run anything up to map 5. No saying that you will be immune to it. I would get a BT scan tool if you run any tune just to be safe, but that is me. I ran map 5 with no supporting mods for about a month. I ran my BT scan tool and there were no codes thrown. Spend the $300, get a BT scan tool. It does a lot more than just look for hidden tuner codes.

+1 on BT scaner.

I have ran up to map 7 with no other mods and on 91 octane so you should be ok but ofcourse that's cause I had Terry check the car out with his BT cable and we did multiple runs checking boost and IAT and all that. So your best bet to make sure you are running fine would be to get a BT cable.

Check the other N54 (tech) site... Your question should be answered there and you can always PM Terry there as well...

Terry says 4&5 on 93 and back down to 3 if you get any codes!

The problem with asking for such advice on the forums is that a lot of people do things that they aren't supposed to Like running map 6/7 on 91 octane on a stock car. Sure the car will run, but a higher map number does not always result in a faster car. There are many factors to consider so we only offer guidelines for the maps.

I would try map 3 and then map 4/5. If you can't tell a real difference between them drop down to map 3, and if you get any codes with map 4/5 then definitely drop down to map 3.

Hope that helps
Mike

I ask Terry the same question, and he told me to stick with Map 5. Anything after Map 5 will results in code throw. Also depends on your location of weather and such. I'm in texas with 100degree and on octance 93 daily driven on map 5.

I'll repeat again. Maps 4 and 5 were designed for 93oct. and up. Many have been successfully running maps 6 and 7 on 93oct. without a single problem, including me! There are cases of maps 6 and 7 being run on 91oct. still without problems, but that's really pushing it IMHO. Btw, my car is stock otherwise as well. Just to be on the safe side get a BT! So at the end I think that you gonna get the best performance out of your stock trim + JB3 running on 93oct. on map 5.

Can Map 4 or Map 5 be run on 91 octane and Dps? I know it says it on the white papers for the JB3 that it is suggested that map 4 and 5 needs 93 octane. Can someone chime on this?

I've run map 6 and 7 on 91oct, but as I said "don't try this at home". I think you'll be OK, just have a BT handy.

Some of you guys are crazy. I suppose it's just a $15,000 usd engine.....

Map 7 on stock car would probably sit you around 14-15psi and 350-360whp. IMO you should have some supporting mods because you will be relying heavily on the DME to control knock/timing, especially on 91oct. Engine longevity??

Map 7 on stock car wont never go up that high on hp since it just wont run right and throw codes. Just stick to 3/4/5 on 93 octane and no mods. if you want to go higher you need to upgrade FMIC and Dps.

I said I've tried maps 6 and 7 on 91oct. in cool climate and for not more then 1 day. My everyday choice is MAP4 on ~95oct., or MAP6 when it's cooler outside, again on ~95oct. otherwise stock MSD80/PRE29.2. For long distance travel I pick MAP2 on the same octane.
