Your stock IS will still cost 4-5K more and be no better in terms of power than the regular 335i with an $850 tune. The tuned N54 discussion was brought in, because someone mentioned the N54 can be tuned as well, which as a few people have already explained that in the case of the IS, the overboost function is lost and the engine becomes just like any other tuned N54 (faster than a stock IS but only about 10-15 WHP faster than a tuned N55). If the extra 10-15 WHP is worth 4-5K for you, by all means buy an IS so you can get the older engine...

The only thing I see about the IS, is visual improvements, nicer wheels and a DCT. If that is worth 4-5K more to you, then you made the right decision, I think judging by sales numbers most people would disagree however. I personally have only seen 2 is's even when I went to a BMW meet in South Florida with over 300 cars. I think people see that the pricing is a little high for a non-M 3 series. That's all, nothing to argue here, just facts...
The 335is comes with M-Sport, Style 313 wheels, larger oil cooler, stiffer engine mounts, blacked out tail pipes, black kidney grille, black Anthracite headliner and DCT as an option. I got mine with DCT which at the time BMW had a full rebate on of $1.5k. No need for a tune and I'm fully warrantied. Nay say all you want, it was full of WIN to me!

totally agree... only thing is s4=4 doors and is= 2... only if they had s5 coupe with s4 engine... and of course a price tag closer to the s4, then i'd totally bite the bullet on that...

edit: now all us s4/s5 fans will get slaughtered here lol...

I wonder how many ZHP sedans they sold during the E46 gen. It'd be interesting if they offered a sedan again for the "zhp" "IS" for the F30 series kinda like how they reintroduced a 4-door M3 after the E46.

You could more or less build one up until 2011 (with the changeover the the N55). Take the e90 335 (with N54), get the m-sports package, get the performance power kit and BMW exhaust installed at the port (exhaust is a questionable expanse IMO). You simply could not get the DCT, black mirrors, other little cosmetic extras and little IS badges. At least that's how I understand it.

That is what annoys me. Every one keeps saying that but they do not mention that they are comparing fully loaded one with a base M3. A fully loaded M3 runs not $59K but rather 70K plus.

Also, what is the point of test a 335is 6-speed. When the best feature of the new 335is is the double clutch sequential manual transmission that would make it more faster on and off track.

Do they mean that 335is is fully loaded and being compared to a base M3?

I agree with everything else but that last statement does not hold water. It is not mostly cosmetic. It has performance upgrades that are not just cosmetic. The biggest of all being DCT type tranny which up to this point was reserved only to M cars like M3 coupe, conv. or sedan.
